Tuohy and valby best on the track and best at xc! So actually pretty similar!

And yes some girls do better at cross country and some girls have different races where they can really have peak performances or a bad day!

But at the end of the day running is running!

Riggs 1602 at great America seems legit! I'm would give her 174 right with tuohy at Holmdel! Fair hold right behind!

If runners can be 45 seconds different from track to XC, you can see why it is possibe for Valby to be much faster than Tuohy in a track 5000. These speed ratings would have Trotter beating all of those girls in XC while getting lapped by them in a track 5000.

There are many things that affect cross country races, speed ratings are inconsistent, but one way the data would make sense is when runners constantly runs their speed rating like Tuohy running 170s.

Might be correct for others but not on a runner like Katelyn Tuohy. In fact your argument applies to Tuohy. Tuohy was 15 seconds behind Logue at XC last year but indoors Tuohy ran 15:30 while Logue ran 16:10.

Bill was simply in a great mood when he dolled out that 180 4 trotter simple caprice!

They raced twice on the track in the spring same result!

An easy way to understand is by comparing Amber Trotter to Claudia Lane on the same courses.

Footlocker West Regional

Amber Trotter: 17:14

Claudia Lane: 16:59

Mt SAC:

Amber Trotter: 16:16

Claudia Lane: 15:49

Woodward Park:

Amber Trotter: 16:55 (rainy day, may not have pushed hard)

Claudia Lane: 16:30

Amber Trotter was a phenomenal and dominant talent and the times she was running were unbelievable at the time. Years later, Claudia Lane was around 15-25 seconds faster than Trotter was.

Now comparing Claudia Lane to Katelyn Tuohy.

Tuohy at her best was estimated to be an additional 15-20 seconds faster than Lane at her best, from what I remember reading. So in essence, Tuohy would be, at LEAST, around 30 seconds faster than Trotter.

No contest.

I think if they raced XC in May, Tuohy would have beaten Valby by more than 20 seconds. Maybe you didn't notice that some women who Tuohy easily beat in XC, ran a 3000 equivalent to her 5000 last week.

I still think Tuohy's 16:21 at Holmdel is the best girls HS XC performance ever. Not sure people outside of NJ really appreciate how incredible that is for such a difficult course.

She beat her by 3 seconds 3 races in a row! Only in your fantasy land does anything u say make sense!

Some that come to my mind

This result at Holmdel Park - only a handful of boys ran faster that day - a lot of data suggests this course runs about same speed as Balboa Park

Fairchild Balboa Park record (16:39 in 1990)

Schiro van Cortlandt Park record (16:46 in 1984)

Stamps #2 all time at Balboa Park - 16:42 in 1994

Tuohy's course records at Bowdoin Park (16:44 in 2018) and Sunken Meadow (16:53 in 2018)

There are 18 speed rating for girls at 170 or higher and Tuohy has 9 of them

Which is why the speed rating data does not make sense and translate anything to track unless the runners constantly run their speed rating like Tuohy did.

Point I was trying to make was that there seems like there's no real historical barometer that stays accurate from year to year

Claudia Lane demolished all of Amber trotter's records and ran way faster times yet way slower speed ratings!

That just doesn't make sense to have such a big discrepancy and also the fact that speed ratings are getting slower while runners are getting faster at least on the girls side!

Someone else said I think maybe simple psychology ... that Bill wAs a little more generous with his ratings early on and then almost enshrine some of those performances so everything more recently is going to be judged tougher

How did Karrie Baloga beat Ellie Shea at Champs Sports (Foot Locker) if track PRs are so critical in cross country races?

Shea probably ran her best XC race ever and got beat. Maybe there is more to XC that track times.

didn't know you follow girls' HS XC, but I beg to differ. Her time at Holmdel is very impressive but her times at VCP ( 13:21 ) and Sunken Meadow ( 16:53 ) are far superior..
