Very sad to read of this. Grant has been reporting the stories that nobody else went near in Qatar.
I hope he gets a full autopsy outside of Qatar, and an investigation into his passing is launched immediately- as this has all the hallmarks of foul play.

This is really, really sad. It is well-known Grant had been critical of the Qatari organizers and he wore a rainbow shirt to the USA-Wales game in support of his gay brother. I truly hope his family gets answers about this, but whatever happened, this is a tragedy. I didn't know Grant, but he was a top journalist and, from the outpouring on Twitter, clearly universally-respected.

Grant was Rojo’s sports editor at Princeton and he and Rojo and Chris Lear (author of Running with the Buffaloes) took a course together at Princeton. Lear was just telling me the story. Course was something like “African Americans in sport” and a 1 paper for your grade class. Grant wrote about 1974 Howard soccer team and got like a B- . Rojo and Lear got As and Grant couldn’t believe it.
Meanwhile within like a couple years Grant is working at Sports Illustrated and has turned the paper into a feature story.

This one really shook me. Hopefully it was from natural causes but the world lost one of its best soccer journalists way too young.
One of Grant's most well known pieces was writing "The Chosen One" which introduced the world to the high school sensation LeBron James.
