Absolutely crazy that no pacer helped the actual leader of the race. Instead they slowed way down to keep back with a struggling Gidey. The winner was rightfully upset. Did Gidey pay all of the pacers? Were none of the pacers purchased to pace the field. Bizzare.
Nike Pacers didn't want to pace the Adidas athlete I guess.
But weren’t they pacers for the whole race, not just athletes they share a sponsor with? If this was Nike playing dirty tricks on its competitors, that just makes it more corrupt.

One of them was an official pacer for the whole race. He should’ve gone with the lead runner. The rest were her training partners there to specifically pace her. Apparently, before the race they wouldn’t even tell the other competitors what pace they were planning on running. It stands out more in the women’s field because the pacers can go longer, but the men’s elite fields do the same all the time. The race directors will allow someone’s training partners to stick with them individually.
This is a reasonable comment on face value, but then race organizers should be willing to pay the top dollar required to get a 2:18 woman to be a pacer. It would cost a lot of money, but the fact is, it is so much easier to find a man to pace a male marathon for 25-30k at record pace compared to a woman.
Agree. What exactly is the reasoning to have male pacers instead of females for the women? It doesn't seem equitable to have pacers who could easily stay the whole way with the leaders and barely break a sweat. For that matter, why not just have someone on a bicycle or motorcycle or an EV pace them?

I bet a big company like Ineos would sponsor something like that. Or just swap out pacers every few k's. I be someone like Kipchoge could go under 2 hrs if they paced like that.

Because men are faster and its therefore easier for them to pace a woman, as oppose to other women who are slower than Gidey struggling to keep up at a pace they cannot hold.
And no....a bicycle or motorcycle would be illegal pacing and everyone would have their times not count. Besides, why would we even need a motorcycle when we could just leave it like it is and have the men pacing....very random and quite dumb point you made.
If I were a pacer a few days ago, I would have thought: A 2:22ish 31 year old made a surge. She's grandstanding. She won't hold the pace. Please note: men don't have pacers second 1/2 of Marathon do they?
