Wow!
8 collegates under 13:20. Insane!
Youngs all go home devastated today.
I count 8 collegians under 13:20. Wasn't that long ago that a 13:20 would mark you as a favorite for nationals. Now it might barely guarantee you get into the meet.
Great run from Robinson! I wonder what happened at XC. Also Bosley with a 13:13! I've only ever heard him brought up in XC discussions, but it looks like he's gonna be a monster on the track this season. I might be jumping the gun a bit, but with 3 at 13:11 and 2 more under 13:16 at the start of December, that 13:06 record looks like it's toast. Lawi's 13:00 doesn't look safe tbh like Hicks seems like he's a level ahead of Robinson and he didn't even race today. Even if no one breaks the record, the depth in the NCAA is crazy. Rupp set an AR in college with a 13:18i, and today 6 college kids ran faster than that. I've seen people argue about if the NCAA is good at developing world class athletes, and results like this make me wonder how people even argue about that.
How many people get into nationals in the 5k? Do they only get in based on time?
I wouldn't be surprised if Drew Bosley beats Nico Young on track.
Graham Blanks continues to impress. He has to be the best Ivy League distance runner of all time.
Crazy race. Under 13:30 gets you 19th!
A lot of school records were set using cross fitness
Holy cow. Unbelievably deep race.
A fantastic run for Herrera. His pro debut?
Yes . How was that possible ?? what has changed recently to bring about this amazing stat? Ohhh...right, lots of Base training during covid. My bad. [ eye roll]
[ super shoe + super track deniers, where you at?!]
Things have changed...
Twenty years ago (2002) the fastest indoor 5K by an American was 13:44 by Brent Hauser and a total of 9 men ran under 14. The fastest outdoor time that year was 13:21 by Meb and second was Jorge Torres at 13:26.
That should be expected. NAU is a XC school and is awful in track, relatively speaking. They’ll be lucky to score 5 points at nationals. After winning XC every year, 5 points is awful.
There is something to be said about racing a 5k off of 10k fitness….
1500/5k training is probably overrated for a vast amount of NCAA athletes.
77 runners went under 14 minutes for 5k is pretty crazy.
Is this an outlier or a genuine breakthrough that raises the bar for collegiate running, i.e is 13:30 the new 14:30?
NAU was fourth at indoors last year with three runners.

Really…only 9 sub 14s indoors in 2002? Jeez.
