So what was his plan B?
There are TONS of kids similar to GF. Burned bright, faded out too soon. What was his pro contract worth? Running isn't a real pro sport for the vast majority of guys and gals tinkering away at it. At some point you have to get a real job with that degree in Exercise Science or some random BA in home ec.

From memory, he went into a ferocious injury cycle in college. IIRC, he jacked up his foot (and or ankle) on a cross country course? Those injuries, like others, can be quite detrimental to high performance.
