I think I read that the lead was as big as 12 seconds. I might be wrong. If you are running 19:30 pace, which is 3:15 per K, 12 sec is 61.5 meters (if my math is right). I was impressed by their race and KT’s catching her. The aerial photo is cool because it’s probably the aerial representation of a 12 sec gap that we already knew about. If I were a big fan, I’d probably want to look at more aerial photos. Thanks for sharing it.
The biggest gap was 11.9 seconds when Tuohy was still with the group at 4k Based on 5 yards per second would be 60 yards, thus much less then that in the photo.

So do we believe our eyes or do we believe your calculations?

the gap wasnt 11.9 .. it was only 11.9 at 4k ... katelyn surged before that so that means she already ate up some of the gap

rojo said more than 13 seconds
Rojo also thinks that Parker Valby is in good enough shape to run a 14:40 5k, so don't believe everything he says.

I think he said 14:40s, and tbf, I think she can run 14:49 soon. I'm almost positive Tuohy can now. I went back the other day and looked at the 15:14 she ran and it was nutty. She led from 1800m in April. In a Sound Running setup she would've been close to 15:00, and she was in even better shape in June. Valby was only a couple seconds behind her at nationals, so I imagine she was in low 15s shape last June. With 5 months of injury free XC training under her, I'm thinking she'll prove it soon.
Tuohy crushed Valby on the hills, but if you take the greatest US XC runner ever out of the race, Valby demolished a stacked field. She was well clear of 3rd, who was well clear of 4th. Just because 14:40s shape Tuohy crushed her on a brutal XC course doesn't mean she's not ready to drop a 14:50 5k.
