Alberto Salazar won the New York City Marathon and still had College eligibility which he used the next semester he ran 2:09.41 at age 22 and 2:08.13 T(he course was 148 Meters short when remeasured to see if it was the World Record at_ age 23, no reason someone can not run fast at a young age providing they are also excellent at 5 and 10k
I think she’s the type with range all the way from 1500 to marathon, but I think she’ll be good enough on the track that we won’t see her run a marathon for a very long time.
track is fun tho and katelyn is totally bring life to college cross country the same way she did in high school, HS XC was kinda big when KT was in HS then she graduated and covid hit
cross country will be big in the next few years!!! the top professional teams are starting to run cross champs too!!
Tuohy's current 1500 PB is rated (in IAAF points) slightly higher than her 5000m best, so it seems premature to set her onto marathon early. The next two years might show if she is fast enough (say, 4:00 to 4:02) to become a contender in international (around/sub 14:30) 5000m. If not, it would make sense to at least consider Marathon post-college as 10000m is too niche and "money is on the roads."
High mileage runner, fast, gritty, strong and patient.
I was lucky enough to be able to watch her run, in person, in high school. She is amazingly smooth and "light" on her feet.
One year states was up in northern NY and the course was deep mud- kids were struggling to trudge through and she just glided across the mud. But in the smoothness is amazing strength.
I agree with you that she will be a great marathoner.
There is no shame in being too large to be an elite marathoner. Chris Solinsky was never going to run 2:03. Caster Semenya has run 3:59 for 1500 but she will never be world class in the marathon.

katelyn said she wants to run the new york marathon
True, but she has yet to run even a 10,000 and I doubt she runs one this year.

What is 'high' mileage to you? If she's not even running 90 then that's not high. And if she is running 90-100 that's nowhere near top marathon mileage. And the way she came from behind having to run down Valby seems more like she relies more on speed rather than endurance. Valby is more the grinder than Tuohy.
