Alright everybody, this is a good one and I'm sure you've heard it before. I'm just here to lighten up your day, I suppose.
I'm back at home for winter break and my coach gives me workouts to do on the track. These are workouts that basically must be done on a track (i.e. 500's/200's/100's at certain paces/times) not just tempo or threshold workouts. So this is probably the 10th time or so I've done track workouts on our track since going to college and during these 10 times, the track has been locked, therefore I have to climb over a fence. I would say about half the time I've been doing these workouts people from the school (coaches, athletic director, etc) have seen my doing the workouts and they have never questioned me. So today I'm coming back over the fence and I open up a ticket booth door and go in to stretch. As I hear a car coming, which probably saw me, I go out of the booth and it's "school police."
At first, this guy doesn't hassle me too much, just the usual why were you here and everything. I just reply I was in the booth because I needed to do something. And then he goes about how he saw me jumping over the fence. I inquired about as to why the track isn't open and he started getting really pissed off. I finally admitted I was in the booth stretching and I admitted I shouldn't have done that, but the track should be open at least. He continued to become furious saying stuff such as, "Go to your college and run the workout, we don't want you around here." And, "Run the workout on the roads and take your bill for a stress fracture to the judge with your citation you'll get next time." He also asked why I needed to stretch after I was done running a workout if I'm already "warmed-up." I just told him I run in layersand my base layer for the workout didn't keep me warm enough." Finally, when he actually said, "You're just being stupid, get the hell out of here," I replied, "Alright, I'm sorry, I need to get running anyway." His response muttered was, "You dipshit." As he thought I was out of hearing distance about 30 feet away.
My solution to the problem here is to write a letter addressing the exchange of words between the guard and I and also a letter addressing the resolution to keep the track open as other schools do. This letter would be addressed to administration and the school board. Just thought this was letsrun material. I know people complain a lot about people, but after this, I've reached the final conclusion, "You can't argue with ignorance."
