I understand that he's almost certain to go pro, but has he considered life after running at all? He'd probably have been able to run at Stanford - why would he choose a school as weak as NAU?
Although a program geared toward 10k XC doesn’t really seem like it fits his running strengths. But there are other factors that go into a decision like this. His brother is there. Doesn’t sound like he’s too into academics, so he’s not giving up that.

He is not “almost certain to go pro.” Given his choices, I don’t think he could have gotten into Stanford even with running. It sounds like the academics at NAU are more at his level and that will be better for him going forward. People do get degrees and jobs from NAU, contrary to the opinions spewed on this board. No, top investment banks aren’t recruiting there, so what?

Yup. Nothing wrong with a degree in Phys Ed and being a gym teacher. Worked for Axel Foley.
NAU isn't as terrible of a school as a lot of posters like to claim. Where you get your undergraduate degree doesn't really matter as long as the college is accredited. I have a friend who studied physics at NAU and is now doing a PhD program in astrophysics. He is very smart and capable and I don't think any less of him for choosing NAU.
The Sahlmans will stay together, just like the Youngs
Nice choice over UCLA. Good program for Newbury Parkers, but it’s more for people like Cantu and Martinez.
And for c/o 2024 guys that will be on next years team like Shetty, Guevara, Porter and Schohn.
For Doshi Stanford might be a better decision if he is ok with waiting for years to crack the top 7.
Shut up about NP's 7th guy or JV team, my god. Every thread about one of the NP studs devolves into the same couple posters arguing about which 8th grader will make the team in 2026
Congrats, love to see the support form the Young's on IG and Colin making a post as well. Will be some epic duals between Stanford and NAU. Will always wonder what could have been if all 5 ended up at the same school. Does Brosnan go home devestated? Sorry, had to say it.

Cantu, Shetty, Guevara, Porter, Schohn and whatever other NP JV'ers I missed are not recruits for major college programs. If that is who will choose UCLA or be chosen for UCLA, that is quite the statement about the future in Westwood.
people are ridiculous trying to discredit NAU. It’s jealousy. You see it with all the top running school, someone is always trying to throw shade. For BYU it’s the age of their runners, for Stanford it’s the team of white rich privileged preppy suburbia kids, for Oregon it’s the Nike money and for NAU they claim academics. People are jealous. If you cant beat them, hate on them.
Can’t you just be happy for Aaron? He’s going to be running in the best running environment in the country, competing for national titles, improving with a good chance to become pro, earning a degree with a full ride and the best part doing it all alongside his big brother. Honestly this is a dream situation for any high school runner. Haters only wish they could! Aaron and Colin are the future of NAU! Love it!
I see this ongoing bull about how a runner is a fool for not going to Stanford. Give me a break! Like 100% of those who graduate from NAU, or Oregon, or Podunk U are losers academically? I think not. Yep, there is university bias in the real world, but congrats to Colin S. for choosing what he feels is right for HIM, and more power to him!

If the focus is XC, how did Young manage 3:37 and 13:11? Obviously Colin is going to continue focusing on track.

The word I heard is Brosnan did not want A Sahlman at UCLA and he didn’t have the grades on top of everything. Hopefully it all works out for him at NAU, but from what I know UCLA and the others dodged bullet with this one.

Who does Brosnan want? I see Cal Poly loading up on CA talent and no UCLA announcements. Where are all the UCLA signings?
If Sahlman really is the speed monster that his teammates have claimed he is, then I don't think NAU would really be the best fit for him coaching-wise.

I’m sure lots of guys and girls in the works. Brosnan arrived in August. Most likely they will see signees come this winter. It doesn’t happen over night, but I don’t think they will miss a anyone by the years end

Why are you sure? Does he have a track record of recruiting?
