Great run from Gorze. He won by 49 seconds over a kid who ran 8:27 for 3k last year. He was also 28 seconds ahead of the second fastest time of the day, 15:06, from Jacob Nenow, son of former 10k AR holder Mark Nenow, who ran 8:16 for 3k last year. Nenow had a really impressive final mile in tougher conditions too, with the rain coming down pretty heavy at that point. Good day of cross country running out there today.
I think Rocky Hansen out of NC has looked great all season too. Gorze, the Youngs and Rocky look like the best 4 in the country. Indistinguishable who’s the best of the 4 at this point based on what they’ve accomplished. I doubt they’ll all run the same meet NXN vs Eastbay, but I wish they would.
You just mentioned 4 guys who look like the best in the country and didn't even mention the 2 guys who are coming into this season as sub-4 milers. Jfc this year is absolutely stacked. If you don't beat the Youngs this year, I don't think you can call yourself the best, so I think most of the top guys are going to be going to NXN. Last year was crazy because of NP's top 3, but this year might be crazier because there's somehow way more depth than there was last year.

As noted earlier in this thread, there are a couple of sub-4 milers in this list plus at least a couple more who were sub-4:05 last spring. All seniors, most who have raced national championships last fall & earlier this year.
Have to agree with rankings at this point.
Probably the greatest collection of distance talent ever for a US hs senior class.
Well, depends on whether NPHS has two or three guys ahead of him. Aaron Sahlman is coming around but hasn't yet shown the same level as last year's xc. Leo and Lex Young have run 14:30 and 14:25 at Woodward Park, the latter breaking Nico's meet record, so they are the class of the national field. Drew Griffith, currently the top junior in the nation, just put up the #3 national speed rating, 197, just ahead of Rocky Hansen and Aidan Cox. Connor Burns and Simeon Birnbaum were both junior sub-4 milers, joining Jim Ryun in that category, and having what I believe to be undefeated senior xc seasons (Burns ran 14:32 at Chile Pepper), so we'll have to see what they can do when pushed. Hunter Jones and Kole Mathison are up there as well, so while it wouldn't be surprising to see Gorze (#11 in the country in speed rating) in third or fourth, he has competition. http://tullyrunners.com/XC2022/HighestSpeedRatings2022.htm
which is nuts but I have to agree, this could be the most talented or depth-laden senior class ever. Astounding when you consider class of 2020, 2008, and obviously 2001. The talent in prep distance running continues to amaze, I'm stoked for the future of pro US running.
This is a 14:00 track guy. He figures to be top five in the nation.
Per athletic.net, here are Gorze's prs:
1500: 3:50.31
Mile: 4:07.99i
3000: 8:11.38
3200: 8:52.00
5000: 14:00.34
10,000: 29:29.92
Whereas most of his national-calibre competitors are/near 4-flat milers, Gorze appears to be a long-distance grinder. Apparently loves the long stuff. Haven't seen a 10k time like that from a US hs runner in a long time. Most don't run it.
Thus, Gorze would be my pick to have the best transition to college running and the one most likely to make an impact in xc next year as a true frosh.

in what universe is it indistinguishable
There is no objective way not to go Leo #1 Lex #2 at this point. While Gorze probably should be # 3 and might win at nationals, it is more arguable that he should be tenth then first.
Talk about recency bias. Hall, Webb, Ritzenhein graduated together and went on define effectively define American distance running for a decade. Let me know in 10-15 years if anyone has more than a vague recollection of who these guys are.
