Why is it all you ever do is criticize, everything, that girl is fantastic I thought about Houston like we all did but no need to go there she was great.
Dude, fo you ever just enjoy the video?
If I play some old blind toothless bluesman moanin' and groanin' them blues, that is the appeal, the.....primitive. Not suppose to be done any other way.
I just went back and listed to this Lucy person again after listening to Whitney Houston sing it, and it's just no comparison. Houston is superior in every way.
I see that this Lucy person is 17 (at least when she recorded), so perhaps she will get even better...and she's great now, but she's no Whitney Houston...not with the singing anyway, and hopefully not with all the other nonsense Whitney got herself involved in.
When the opinion stated is "the most gifted singer I've ever heard", then some reality needs to be dealt. I suppose maybe the OP hasn't heard many singers. Whitney Houston slayed that song...arranged it that way to make Dolly Parton's song even better. This Lucy person copied Whitney and not as well.

I believe in truth first and foremost. I said this girl was a great singer. She's just not Whitney Houston. If the title of this thread had been, "Here's a great young singer", I would have agreed. When the title is "the most gifted singer I've ever heard", well, that's a different story. She doesn't deserve THAT kind of praise. It's high praise indeed, and so I was expecting to hear something I had never heard before. When I first heard Adele sing Rolling in the Deep, that was shockingly good. Not so with this Lucy person.

OP asserted that she was the most gifted singer he had ever heard. You do notice OP never mentioned that she was the most gifted singer that Flagpole had ever heard. Are you able to grasp the distinction?

I mean the girl is great but ... it's obvious she based it on the Whitney version. You can hear it. As for most talented singer ever, she has a long way to go to be on Whitney's level. Not to mention Mariah Carey. Adele. Amy Winehouse is far more original. Nope she's not in that class by miles. Now, if she makes her own album with her own hits, writes her own songs, maybe one day. But she's not on that level yet.

CORRECT! Jewel is even a better singer. Kelly Clarkson is a WAY better singer. She's got a long way to go. Perhaps she will. I wish her the best.
A few years ago, I remember hearing Ain't No Sunshine in Notting Hill and I immediately fell in love with the soul in this song. Bill Withers is an absolutel...
3) It is just a matter of opinion here. Don’t be so dogmatic Flaggie. I believe the girl is 17 years old.

Personally, I prefer Dolly's original version to any of the covers. It's just so much more poignant and heartfelt. Most of the others just feel like performances.
There are some old blues and jazz singers where it takes a diferent sound to pull it off a sound none of those,,,,,,,what a voice,,,,,,would be able to pull off, think Janis Joplin, Big Mama Thornton, Etta James, Billie Holliday, Lena Horne, hell,,,,all those female vocal groups in the 50's had some great talent.
I can't see Whitney Houston doing what Patsy Cline van do. What Loretta Lynn can do,
