It'll depend on how it plays out, but I think this is a good start. I'd prefer if Hocker had someone at Teare's level to train with, but Brown came 5th at nationals only .4 behind Teare, so it's not like Hocker will be on his own. Hopefully they plan on getting more guys in the group that are at that level, and use New Gen to build their brand.
Really, it seems like they're going the TME route, which I think could be a really good move. They're starting with more talent and a coach who's shown he can build multiple national champions. They already have a strong following through New Gen. Hocker has shown he can compete at the world level, and Brown has shown he can compete at the national level. It's like a TME with way more starting advantages. Also, as much as people hate on TME, it seems like they're really putting things together with the new coach. Drew won 5k nationals last December and ran 3:34 this summer, Parsons ran huge PBs and made a World final, Joey ran 3:57/7:47 (not a world beater, but massive improvements), and Coleman won a national title. The New Gen team has better talent and Nike money behind them, so I think they at least stand a shot.
