Now that this year was the first time since 1963 the team didn’t make state, let’s discuss how the York alums have done in college.

There may be others that I can't think of at D2 and D3 who weren't even top 7 at York but ran well after.
Marius Bakken World and Olympic qualifier for Norway
Don Sage Stanford multi All American in track and xc, NCAA champion, World xc qualifier
Sean McNamara Michigan All Big Ten in track and xc, 4:03i, 7:58i, twice All Region in NCAA xc, 77th at xc Nationals
Mark Fruin competed in NCAA xc championship with both Indiana and Northern Arizona, All Big Sky in track and xc, NCAA qualifier in the 10000, 14:00/29:04
Jordan Hebert U of Illinois NCAA xc qualifier and All-Region, Qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Round in the 10,000m ... Placed 12th in the 10,000m at the Big Ten Championships with a personal-best time of 29:31.55 ... Placed third in the 5,000m at the Tiger Track Classic with a personal-best time of 14:12.29.
Adam Roche Iowa 2 time All Region in xc, twice top 100 at NCAA xc
Tim Hobbs Illinois Top 5 runner on xc team, 4:04i, Big Ten finalist in 800, Drake Relays Athlete of the Meet, multi Drake Relays winner in 4x800 and DMR
Adam Palumbo Illinois Top 7 runner on xc team
The Dettmans didn't do too much at Oregon but they rarely raced because Lananna stockpiled talent. They were in the second 7 in xc mostly, both around 3:50 for 1500.
Ethan Kern Kentucky
I'd like to point out that virtually all of these guys were Honors Students as well.
My college teammate was second in the state in the mile from York, behind my high school teammate. Had a so so college career, but was a brilliant student and for decades now a respected physician. A gem of a guy and teammate. My grandparents lived a block from York and knew Joe Newton when he was first hired in the 50’s. My brother and I were the only two in the family not to go to York, and my grandfather consistently extolled the positive impact Joe had on the kids and their academics. I considered living with my grandparents to go to York - but my own high school was even better academically and we in any event managed to soundly beat York twice for XC state championships. Joe was nothing but gracious and kind. Joe’s legacy is unparalleled.

Yes. Except for Sage, Bakken and maybe McNamara none of these guys were blue chip recruits or scholarship runners. They were there academically first yet they made contributions to D1 programs.
Pre-internet it's very hard to find collegiate results.

Ok, if it's decades ago, before my time but looking at old IHSA results I think I know the players here. The York guy must be Phil Williams and the guy who beat him at state was Tom Stevens of Deerfield.
Colin Hill from York got cut from the Iowa team. Daniel Klysh is still running for them
