When I walked up to this course it just looked rough and painful. Big hills, high grass, sharp turns. It was exhausting watching the runners slug thorough that course.
The roughness of the course stuck out watching the race. The hills and the footing make the course very challenging. It called to mind Sunken Meadow, with hills and the loose sand that really affects the times.
Sorry is this sarcasm? From the times it looked fast and I remember the course before very fast
The videos show a lot of ups and downs and certainly much less smooth terrain than OSU. Continuous up then down or down then up so difficult to settle into a stride. But a lot of runners ran good times, I agree.
I mean Tuohy did break the Piane record by 12 seconds and is historically good on tough courses. 19:09 seemed a terrific time for this course, but I would be curious to see how it has run historically and if it was altered in anticipation of the 2023 national finals.
Honestly would not surprise me. Looked too tough to run 19:09/other times unless I way underestimate Tuohy (as well as those ND runners)
Yes you are underestimating Katelyn and the ND runners
if you believe parker valby can run her times now then what is stopping you from believing that katelyn can easily run a 19:08 in panorama farms??? we all know shes much better than her 15:14 self months ago and she looked like she did a boring tempo run at wisconsin
also......
1st ND runner is a top 11 finisher at nationals last year
2nd ND runner is a double u20 junior track champ and u20 national xc champ, prob zofia duxek lvl when she entered college
3rd ND runner is a 15:27 5000m runner
their times makes sense
so yup yall are underestimating them, and no this course isnt short, they even allowed runners to WEAR GPS WATCHES unlike the SEC course whom someone reported was not allowed.... this course is managed by the president of USATF and this is 2023 championship course, ITS A LEGIT 6K!
what helped katelyn run her time was because of the 2 ND runners that went out fast in the 2.5k, katelyn was able to run at a faster pace the entire race while the ND runners faded
the gap with Katelyn and the ND runners are 21seconds - 39 seconds- 44 seconds --- the gap makes sense, also katelyn was just with them at the back hill, it was on the last 1.5k that she and kelsey went off
I ran Panorama Farms on Saturday. It's a legit grinder of a course. Solid hills, rolling terrain, decent footing. If you're fit you can handle the 5-6km.. it's the 8km course that can really eat you up as it's tough. Definitely not a Florida or Texas pancake and runs much more like Cowboy Jamboree.
The SEC course was about 150-200 meters short. The other runners times say it all. Looking for the "olemomoi is the most talented girl in the world" thread for running an 18:54.

You make the rudest comments. Why not talk about running? Tuohy's ND record was done in super spikes because the course was a hard race track, not a XC course. Without super shoes, she would have been 25 seconds slower.

Interesting, but not really an argument. A better argument, that might be right, is looking at the Invitational in mod October, the 5K times look very reasonable and all the splits make sense, as they do for the Championship. The VA runners were about 15-20 seconds slower thru 5K in the ACC meet than they ran the 5K race in mid October - even thru about 4K they were faster than they had been 2 weeks earlier. So they were paying for the faster pace. This give me more confidence of the course length.
For the 8K, 16 of the top 20 men PR'd at ACC's. 2 more of them have PR's on the same course earlier this month. Coincidence? I think not! If it really is a "legit grinder of a course", then it must be really short to get those times.
