Vaporfly Next% 2 vs Alphafly Next% for Marathon

Which version of the Alphafly are we talking about?

I do think it’s a personal preference, so based on what you’re saying you should do Vaporfly. I love both, but when doing longer runs I personally feel like the Alphafly 2 absorbs more than the Vaporfly for me. Half marathon and down I love the Vaporfly, but I am running a marathon in a few weeks and am definitely doing the Alphafly 2.

I have done marathons in both. Recently bought 10 pairs of discounted OG Alphafly as the stock was being stripped to use in all my future marathons. Should be good for another 10 years if the rubber doesn't dry rot. Get the Alpha for marathons. The Vapor for 10K and less.

I'll be wearing alphaflys next sunday. First time wearing them in a race, but they feel like i can just cruise forever in them. Likely would stick with vaporfly for shorter distances.

but who cares what some idiots on letsrun say - if you're more comfortable in vaporfly, stick with them. Standing around on staten island isn't the time to be questioning your shoe choice.

Original alphafly. Thank you for responses. Leaning towards vaporfly for the reason poster said above. Feel like it would be crazy to wear alpha and wonder if I’ll have something pop up mid race. See everyone on start line next Sunday!

Have run marathons and half marathons in both; in my mind the difference has been that I’ve found it harder to pick up the pace in the alphafly towards the end. It’s not that I couldn’t do it, but it seemed like it took more work and possibly didn’t get as much pickup as I thought I would. For the marathon I will continue with the Alphafly (OG), going forward for HM it will be vaporfly.

Re my perception on it being harder to pick up materially or kick, I also wore the Alphafly in some shorter races 5mi/10K and had the same experience.

I've raced two halfs and a full in my Vaporfly. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a pair of Alphaflys for NYC this weekend. I only ran one tempo in them last week so far. Hated them for the first two miles, but they got in a groove and I started liking them near the end of the tempo. I think the low drop (4mm?) is noticable, i'm used to higher drop shoes.

With just 8 miles on them, i'm going to chance it and run in the OG Alpha's next weekend. Its either that or my pair of vaporflys with 100+ miles on them.

Similar experience. Should have picked them up earlier, think I would be more comfortable with making the switch.

If you´re used to higher drop, then why don´t you buy Alphafly v.2 with 8 mm drop?

Because I bought the Alphafly 1's on clearance about 6 weeks ago, the price was right. Still don't think $275 is worth it for a shoe, but I'll drop $140 without thinking twice about it. The reviews are mixed anyways on the 2's. There are pros/cons to 1's vs 2's anyhow. I'd have to buy both to really test my preference and put them to work in a tempo run.

Anyways, i don't think the 1's will be that bad for the marathon, even though i run in higher drop shoes normally. I'm mainly looking for all of that cushioning anyways!
