Amou Haji, known as "the world's dirtiest man," has died at the age of 94 in Iran. He died "not long" after villagers took him to a bathroom to wash, according to local media.
The exciting news is now we have a new word champion in a sport that, believe it or not, is dirtier than T&F.
”A man living in India named Kailash "Kalau" Singh could now be the "world's dirtiest man," The Guardian speculated, citing a Hindustan Times article from 2009 reporting that he had not bathed since 2009.”

So the Hindustan Times reported in 2009 that a man hadn't bathed since 2009? Excellent reporting.

Seems more like poor editing for this crappy Yahoo article. You see this a lot these days, even from sites with huge money.
my stupid analytical brain is wondering if they were giving him a bath, in desperation, because he was already becoming unwell. doesn't seem like they would just do it randomly after several years going without.

Yes. I found the 2009 Hindustan Times article just by searching Singh's name. It actually said (as of 2009) that he hadn't bathed in 35 years. His motivations were either to solve all the problems of the nation, or to get a son (he has 7 daughters) depending on who you ask.
FOR THE last 35 years, Kailash Singh ‘Kalau’, 63, hasn’t had a bath nor has he brushed his teeth. He says it is out of love for the country, but neighbours say it is for a son — Kalau has seven daughters.
Ironic from the album “Jagged Little Pill” Jagged Little Pill (25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) out now & includes the live acoustic performance from O2 Shep...
Well, he was 94, so with or without a shower earlier this year, there was a good chance he might die this year.
But he was photographed smoking several cigarettes at one time so I think we can assume he was a regular smoker for 80 years and if you can do that without getting sick you are onto something
