Everyone Has Stopped Caring About Sarah Sellers, New Marathon PB of 2:25:43 Back in June in Grandma's

I don't think many people seriously expected her to be the next great American female marathoner. Good for her on the PR though

Sarah Sellers was recently pregnant and Grandma's was her first marathon after giving birth!!! And with a big PB that is only 1 minute off the way over-hyped Molly Seidel. I would say that Sellers has already become the next great American female marathoner doing that after giving birth. But Sarah Sellers doesn't post about airplane guys or dating apps on Instagram so that still makes Molly Seidel the media darling.

You can argue one might be able to compete with Seidel, but obviously Seidel gets attention for winning an Olympic medal.

I am sure she is disappointed at being neglected considering the overwhelming majority of comments on this site are so positive.

Seidel is not competition for Sellers with the fitness Seidel has and the consistent progress Sellers has demonstrated year over year since 2018. Seidel would be lucky to finish within a mile of Sellers at the next Olympic Trials if Seidel even makes it.

I don't recall anyone saying anything negative about Sarah Sellers on here before. I'm just more surprised that Sellers amazing progress and PB wasn't even worth a mention in any women's news sites. I'm a guy, do women not even care about women's running when one of the best if not the current best American female marathoner sets a big PB?

2:25 PB? The world is at sub 2:17. You see why no one cares.

She did pretty good for a 31 yr old. But I think you’re off on your assessment here, particularly the bit about potentially “current best”, and no, I don’t think she is faster than Molly (look at their Half times.)

But if she keeps chipping away, Sarah can still surprise.

Most women know that "not" being mentioned on this website is a plus.

Have you given birth in the past year? Sarah Sellers is definitely faster than Seidel at their current fitness levels, just compare what Sellers has ran this year to Seidel. You are only as good as your recent races. And do you really think Sellers puts full effort into half marathons when get focus is the full? Halfs are just training races.

While a 2:25 (especially one year after giving birth!) is super impressive and I also am surprised we didn't hear more about this and Sarah Sellers' progress, it's a bit disingenuous to compare her to Seidel. Seidel's 2:24 was at New York which is a harder course than Grandma's and also one where times matter less. I think the key thing is her bronze at the olympics and her 4th place at NYC. Mostly Grandma's doesn't get a ton of coverage relative to the majors. Honestly CIM, Grandma's, and Houston are all like this...places where people can definitely run fast but only really covered by running nerds unless it's something like Keira D'Amato running the American record.

I do expect Sarah Sellers to be a factor at the next Olympic trials. I would put her the tier someone like Steph Bruce or Kellyn Taylor have been...someone who could make the team, but is by no means a favorite.

Thanks for the reminder but don’t think the collective memory of Sarah’s performance is out of the ordinary. Heck I have had non-runners tell me they saw Emily break the marathon record without even acknowledging Keira who broke the years old record earlier in the year. Our memories are short. It is about what can the athlete do today. There are some impressive Personal Bests (way better than I will ever run) but when compared to the rest of the national and world, US athletes have much work to do. So yes many have forgotten about that performance.

Remind me what times Seidel has ran this year compared to Sellers. While running is Seidel's only and full time job (plus posting on Instagram), Sellers is a full time mom with a baby and also works full time at a hospital! Sellers is a much more amazing runner than Seidel will ever be doing it on so little time and with everything else she does.

But on the topic of 2:25 marathoners - Susanna Sullivan is much more interesting to me lately considering how she came from somewhat nowhere to suddenly being the 15th fastest US woman marathoner ever

I dont think anyone forgot about her. She was a great story in Boston and we all thought she deserved the second place money despite not starting with the elites.

You know who we forgot about: That girl that was just a little bit bigger than most of the other marathoners and she was going to show every one how you can be a great marathoner while still being at a "healthy" weight. Her coach dropped all his other athletes to focus just on her, than she dropped him. I don't even remember her name, I think we all forgot about her.

Oh, heck no. Susanna Sullivan is as believable as D'Amato. I'll create a thread for this.
