What embarrassment. That is so slow. How many obese Americans couldn’t beat that lousy robot right off the couch? And these things are supposed to take us over?

You gotta be (hopefully) somewhat sarcastic. This stuff is progressing exponentially.

I was joking, of course.
However, this will not advance exponentially. Sure they have a digital brain, but Robots are physical… mechanical. Therefore, advancement does not follow Moore’s Law - which has ended anyway per NVIDIA CEO. Progress will be more like the advancement of fuel consumption of cars. Boston Dynamics had comparable stuff 15 years ago. I suspect those guys, if focused on the hundred meters, could’ve beaten this thing way back then. They are very close to a limit of progress based on batteries, actuators, and advanced materials. iRobot is not 10 years away, it’s 200 years away.

By the way, I hope I’m proven wrong because I like tech, but I don’t think I will be.

The groundbreaking part of this demonstration is what you are missing in your assessment.

Don't forget that in Amurica this robot will soon have a couple of machine guns strapped to it which will help them take over pretty easily I think
Maybe my expectations are too high, but I though this looked surprisingly bad. I've seen videos of robots doing flips and all sorts of extremely agile and coordinated acrobatics. This thing looked like it was constantly about to fall over. I'm sure this record could be smashed if some more advanced firms put some focus into it.

Armed robots can be put to good use as replacements for the US military personnel who protect the freeloaders of NATO.
why bother with a legged robot like that? Wheels or tracks are much, much faster and infinitely more stable.
Not sure, but I'm guessing it is part of the criteria for this record category. I agree with you that wheeled robots would obviously destroy this time. That is probably a different category/standard for another record.
A friend once pointed out that if a robot from the future wanted to kill you, it wouldn't grab you by the neck, lift you off the ground, and throw you through a window. It would run at you at 40 mph and snap your neck before you even realized what was happening.
Thanks to the miracle of science, we are one step closer to making that a reality.
