The vaunted UF conditioning program netting results. Valby will be Tuohy's main competition again.
Too bad the “vaunted” conditioning program has no effect on her teammates.
It certainly had an effect on some of their other athletes though.

18:58 is pretty fast. Probably fast course and who knows of length. But she destroyed Engel of OH State by over 1:00 Engel ran close to Venters and the CBU lady at Griak (but Barger of Utah was close too). Also won Big 10 preview but not real sure how rest of Big 10 is as Michigan's first was 68th yesterday at Nuttycombe.
But agree on Valby and she is one not afraid to push the pace.

Would you call a male sophomore in college who had a similar performance the most talented boy in the country?
Some of those TX courses are pretty fast....
For someone who ran 15:20 as a sophomore it's not too surprising to see sub 19. She was second to tuohy by about 2 seconds and tuohy said in her interview that for a moment she thought she couldn't beat valby that race.
Valby is a star.

That must have lasted for half a lap because she sure ran by her with authority.
Valby will be Tuohy's main competition like I said some days ago. Although the cynic in me would point out that this is exactly what others on here have wryly predicted, that Valby would again show up late in the season looking jacked again and start running personal best again. Like clockwork.
The 2015 SEC Champs were held there where Dominique Scott of Arkansas won in 19:23.50… Dominique Scott returned to this course that same year to win the NCAA South Central Regional Champs in 19:35.30
In 2017 at the NCAA South Central Regional Champs, Arkansas’ Nikki Hiltz won it on this course in 19:35.50
In 2021, Rice’s Grace Forbes won the NCAA South Central Regional Champs here in 19:59.30. Earlier that year, she won the Arturo Barrios Invitational on the same course in 19:53.30
Valby’s time today is screaming fast and SOLO. Huge statement.
“looking jacked”
Have you seen Tuohy?
Has to be a course record
AND it was apparently 82 degrees with 71% humidity!
....and short.
When you are that fast, you don't need to race at all until this week, especially when you'd win those races by 30+ seconds. Just train and stay healthy. Nothing suspicious like you imply. She ran 10:10 in high school with little training.
Here's the interview.
From all the data I was able to uncover, it certainly appears to a HUGE course record.
That is how she runs. Always from the front. Valby runs on the assumption that she will outstrength her opponents. It has always been a curious tell. She seemed genuinely surprised that Tuohy blew by her in the 5000m final. The good thing for Tuohy is that if Valby is in the race everything is simplified. No tactics. Just a strength test. Tuohy just needs to key off Valby. Draft off of her and pass her again.
