Movies that are no longer good upon rewatching many years later.

Red Dawn

Yeah. I loved that movie as kid. Tried watching it again for nostalgia and only got 20 minutes into it before I had to bail.

I haven't seen it since the first time, but "Eraserhead" would probably be like this for me.

"Young Frankenstein" or any Mel Brooks movie are unwatchable now, even though 'Young Frankenstein" has a few good scenes and great cinematography.

One that has held up great is "A Streetcar Named Desire."

Got to be "The Groove Tube" for me. My 17 year old self thought it was the funniest thing ever, watching it in a theater when it first came out. Now I find much of it to be dull and juvenile.

Pulp Fiction

The little kid in me still gets a kick out of some of the skits, though not all.

Back in the day I actually liked Billy Jack. What was I thinking?

Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Oh wait, that sucked the first time I saw it too. Never mind.

Scarface. Rambo. Pulp Fiction anything by Tarantino, really). Schindler's list.

On the other hand, rocky and Forrest Gump stand the test of time.

Fast Times At Ridgemont High

American graffiti. UNWATCHABLE on further review. Butch Cassidy and Sundance kid barely better. I agree with previous poster - Billy Jack Has to be the all-time king of this category.

The original Star Wars films, IV, V VI.

got the vhs as a present when I was 7 years old and couldn’t stop watching them. They were magical.

just watched the first one again IV, and it was so boring. Didn’t have any of the emotional impact. The pace is slow. Even with forgiving the special effects, it is now forgettable.

Pulp Fiction? That was groundbreaking and still holds up for me.

A B movie cult classic “The Last Starfighter” didn’t hold up as well. My kids wouldn’t watch it, but my brothers and I thought it was awesome in the 80s.

I guess those were never supposed to be great, so not completely unexpected.

I just wastched Alien all the way through for the first time a few weeks ago. Besides the miss on what technology would look like in the future, it’s still a really good movie.

Bridget Jones Diary. Saw with my mom in the theatre and we really enjoyed it. My mom literally laughed her head off. Saw again recently with my mom on her birthday and I cringed, she also thought it was awful. Of course your taste will change from childhood to teenage years till adulthood, middle age and old age.

Since the movie itself didn't change, what changed in you that caused you not to like the thing that you once enjoyed?

Same question could be asked about many things, including running. Some people used to love running, now they don't enjoy it (not counting those who had to stop because of injury).
