Here is why NAU won’t win NCAAs

I don't think that's WHY NAU won't win nationals. AND There are currently 3 men on the roster from AZ. If you are talking top 7, that would seem much more coincidental than anything. While I totally agree it should be commonplace for state schools to get the state's best HS runners, I don't think that makes or breaks NCAA title chances. I'm fairly certain John McDonnell didn't have ANY local ARK boys on his teams when they won most of them through the 90s (many TX boys for sure), much less in their top. Check the UTEP team results from the 70s and 80s.

You are correct about the old Arkansas and UTEP teams but college was a lot less expensive back then so the need was not as great. Also the internet didn’t exist.

But in the last 20-25 years it has been almost every team. Recently CU had Conner Winter, Cuse had Germano and Colin Bennie. The list goes on. Calling it now, Stanford and NAU will not win

I think there might be some confusing correlation with causation going on here.

Hey working theory, cheap kids, in state tuition spreading that scholarship around. Allows you to spend more on some out of state kids or internationals. More bullets

I don’t think it applies to the women, they have 5.4 more scholarships and can give out a lot more large scholarships.

I'm curious... and it sounds like you may know... Do guy XC teams get ~2.6 full scholarships to spread around, and the women get ~8?

Track and XC are lumped together. Men can have a max of 12.6 and women 18.

Of course a school may not offer that much either and many do not max out.

All depends on the school. BYU is less expensive if you are an LDS member, Stanford has no in state tuition but fantastic institutional financial aid.

But getting a guy like Tyler day or Abdi was a total game changer for NAU would love to see what scholarship if any they were on when they joined the team.

Colin Bennie attended Wachusett Regional HS in Holden, Massachusetts- he’s not from New York. Marty Hehir and Dan Lennon were from NY. Knight, Hubbard, and Kush were not. So it was 3 out of 7 from NY. The other four were from someplace that bordered NY.

If NAU doesn't win nationals, it will be because another team scored fewer points than them.

Lincoln was there in 2000. I wouldn't be shocked if there were 1 or 2 5th man type guys I am forgetting. Seriously though how many top 50 in the NCAA do you expect to find in a state like Arkansas or Arizona? One every half dozen years would be my guess

Probably a team with an In state All American. I might go through track championships as well. I may make the criteria harder. Maybe need a top 3 local guy in an event.

Exactly!!! There are three really good runners to come out of Arizona recently. Day, Trouard, Abdi.

Didn’t Jarron Lawson win a national team title for Arkansas on the track? He is from Texarkana (basically Arkansas)

Stanford has multiple runners from Calif on its roster, including one in their top 5.

Good call!! Maybe this is the team! Are they are year away through? Toppers and Young’s making a very California team. If they got a good Liam Anderson showing he would help.
