Is this the best team CBA NJ has ever had?

Although it looks like this is one of the best teams CBA has had in about 10 years go back to the 2011, 2012, and 2013 teams and you'll realize they still have some work to do to earn that title. Those teams finished 1st, 4th, and 2nd at NXN so we'll see what happens in December with this team.

Not the best team they've ever had, but it's a good one. The 2011 team is probably their best ever. They scored 38 points at the regional meet and won NXN. Their track depth was pretty legendary too; 8 boys at 4:22 or better in the 1600, 6 boys at 9:24 or better in the 3200, 7:34 for 4x8 and 10:02 for DMR. 2012 and 2013 were also both very strong teams. Their 7th man in 2013 ran 16:33 at Bowdoin (they averaged 16:15 that day). We will see if this CBA team can beat that when regionals rolls around.

And that 2013 team avg'ed 15:52 at Holmdel, I believe.

I thought the 2012 could have been the best but the mud at the NXN was a crap shoot- plus that was just after Hurricane Sandy. They won the MOC with their JV team.

The best CBA team ever was from the late ‘80s led by John Coyle. It’s not close.

Agreed, I was going to mention that the 4th place finish for the 2012 was definitely disappointing for the team (and also surprising given the way they ran that year). But not only did the team have to deal with the mud at NXN that year, but they also had to deal with Hurricane Sandy throwing off their schedule and training for the month of November. Either way that team made up for it in track with a 4xMile indoor title and 6 guys under 9:20 (one sub 9) outdoors I believe.

Could also be that “O’Brien is an awesome coach and knows how to make his teams reload and contend for a national title, and after he got fired they struggle to even make state like it says in the thread below”.

Also, wasn’t American Fork in the lead at some point in the 2012 race? And yeah the times were slow for national caliber runners. Conditions must have been crazy. I remember seeing Connor Olson from Wayzata in the lead in the middle of the race. He ended up getting 6th. He was not able to finish that high the next 2 years. Not that he was getting worse as a runner.

The conditions were absolutely atrocious from what I remembered and when I went back and looked at the results that only confirmed it. If you look at one of CBA's top guys, Jack Boyle, he placed 29th in 2011 when they won running 15:52 and then the next year was 25th running 17:45 on the exact same layout. So you're talking about almost a 2 minute difference for a guy who placed higher in the race (and also went on to run sub 9, so he was a quality runner) which is pretty crazy. But regardless of the conditions, everyone runs the same course and Arcadia was the best team on that day.

The NXN results didn’t show that they are.

They had some guys sick.

Also, the thing is, they always seem to go out too hard at NXN. I watched NXN for years and there were years when they were leading in the first mile, and then died down at the end. Much like Lex and Leo on Saturday

Remember how before NIL you had to pay kids to go to a school

Sometimes schools habe to get creative too. I remember CBA didn't have any of their recruiting budget left for Michael Mazzaccaro coming out of middle school, so they offered him more of a long-term deal of becoming the future Athletic Director for CBA. Pretty well known deal at the time in monmouth county circles.

Those were the good old days. XC athletes use to generate such big checks due to the revenue and prestige they brought to the school.

The 2013 team is still one of the best ever. School records on almost every course, 15:52 avg at holmdel. Second at NXN, oh and Mike Mcclemens their top gun ripped a 14:42 at ocp, then won moc, then got 14th at nxn.
