Because, if you've ever lived in a humid place, it makes a huge difference. And two, it won't be 88 degrees the morning of the race.

This morning it was 67 for the high on the 9th. It's going to change a lot over the next 7-10 days.

OP, I totally agree. I ran the race in 2017 and it was pretty bad humidity wise. I loved the event but training hard for a marathon that has a fast course just to waste it in the heat sucks. Seems there is only one out of every 5 years where the weather actually cooperates for fast times in Chicago.

This site says hi of 64 degrees (18 celsius) on the 9th.

The forecasted high is much more likely to happen in the afternoon, like 3 pm, than the early morning when a race happens.

I want you to be right but I use accuweather as it is far more accurate 2 weeks out. I said this last year as well. The other forecasts tend to get closer and closer to accuweather as the date approaches. Just watch.

They should push it to late October. I just checked AccuWeather (I agree with you… they’re pretty reliable 10 days out or so). They updated it this morning to low of 50, high 67 and overcast. let’s see if that holds.

The first year it’s sun freezing you’ll be saying move it to the start of October.
Why change it? Not every marathon every year will be the most ideal situation.

Quite a few Fall marathons in the Midwest/Eastern parts of the US really ought to be moved back two weeks from their traditional weekends. There are an awful lot of marathons run in hot conditions these days and moving them back two weeks would largely correct that.

Remember that optimal conditions for a marathon are 46-48F, low wind, overcast. Runners should be shivering at the start line. That rarely happens anymore with races held in late September through mid October.

You don’t race Chicago because it’s consistently great weather. It’s more a crapshoot than Boston.

Accuweather has already changed to a forecast high of 71 for Oct 9. Low of 55. 17 degree temperature drop in the forecast in one day. Let's wait until Sunday, October 1st, when the forecast is likely to be a bit more accurate.

The weather channel app and AccuWeather are way different. I get notifications from AccuWeather telling me it's going to rain or there's a close lightning strike when it's partly cloudy with sun out.

This is why you should run Monumental instead. Fast course, better weather, simple logistics, no BS.

Yep. 48 and rain one year and then 91 and sunny in the years I've ran it.

This. If the weather is hot for Chicago, just don't run. Get another good couple workouts in and drive down to Indy in November. It's flat and fast. Don't waste your time in Chicago if it's over 70 degrees.

I support this message. Chicago Marathon isn't what it used to be. And it's a big mess to get into the city and do the race. And I can't support a supposed world marathon major that only pays 5 deep and only $50k for the win. This is supposed to be one of our biggest events of the year and the person who is one of the best in the world gets $50k? They used to pay out over $100k at Chicago, with inflation the past decade you'd think they would be closer to $200k by now, but no, it has shrunk. Makes our sport look like a joke compared to other sports.
