ran like Kenyans packed up
there was Virginia and then everyone else
martin was up for a few miles then faded a little
10-12 I think
Def be a force the next few years
This is an impressive performance. Sub 24 is pretty legit on a fair FP course and they had 7 under. With that depth, if you get a couple to pop later in the season, you could be looking at a really good team.
Ground was not hard dried out
so even more impressive with times
Was this a recruiting trip?
Word was he brought Stanford and orgeon to get his teams in front of mass hs runners for recruiting purposes
Mass runners are not nearly good enough to fly your team across the country to try and impress. Being Stanford isn't good enough, they gotta see them run in person to realize its a top 10 school & xc program in the nation?
Martin should have been in UVA's top 7 easily,
but he fell down at 2k, wore himself out by 5k (his words), and finished 17th.
He was in with lead group early on seemed no problem
guy from northeastern impressive to win against the Virginia pack
Virginia going to be a sleeper team this year?
not ranked in top 20 as of Friday
It depends on how fast the course was. Our home course was always super fast, basically a giant firm grass and crushed gravel track. There were years where we had 7 guys around 24 minutes, and we never even made it to nationals.
Franklin is not particularly fast at all. 7 under 24 at that course this early is very impressive
Peaked too soon
UNC could smoke them with their B team. Lets not get ahead of ourselves now. U of VA will always be a middle distance program under Vin. VTech will probably smoke them come ACC champs. But Gary Martin is the real deal. Kid is the second coming of Jim RYUN!!!!!! Is UVA's Coach Trevor Dunbar back in business. He's the real deal.
Very impressive start for Virginia with 20 points, and excellent depth. Martin was actually their third freshman in 17th, the other two being top five or ten. They had 5 out of the top 6. Vin is clearly locked in and while this doesn't mean that they are already the Beast of the East, since we have to see them against better competition and the track competition . The women were good too, 27 points and the easy victory.
Why did they fly to Boston to race hard against Harvard and Syracuse B teams? A truly idiotic move by Vin. UVA has a big enough budget to go to OK State. A WASTED effort because there were no A teams in Boston to get credit for beating. This doesn't help them earn an at large position, it just fatigues them for no reason.
They went to that Maine meet a few times as a promise to Louie Luchini. Which is pretty f-ed up when you think about it, blowing that much smoke up a HS kid's as.

Trevor Dunbar has small feet and acts like it. Steer clear.
This post was removed.
Rumor has it harvard ran the B team
possible Syracuse too
Course was not fast somewhat soft messy
not hard fast
No providence college
no noticeable Kenyans
no Iona
no big names schools like Arkansas last year
or Oregon a few years back (cheserek another Frosh from north Dakota I think
Field was so so yesterday compared to previous years
Dominant outing for Virginia pack running at its best
Temper that with no Providence college womens team
Does anyone know if this course is consistent year after year? Looking at the results of Battle of Beantown going back to 2016 the winner has broke 24 only once with a 23:58 in 2019. There appears to have been some really strong fields there in the past too. Any chance the course was short yesterday? If not Virginia has a really solid team with 7 going sub 24. It's a little hard to believe actually. Or maybe this Virginia team is really good this year. Time will tell.
usually the temp is in the 70s, yesterday it was like 58-60..could be a small factor?
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
