Good for her. The last 5k I did the winning time was about the same. only 2 females broke 20 minutes. I don't think 10 year olds were allowed to enter, first category was 12-29.
That’s great, assuming she’s having fun and the family is reasonable about her training. There’s a local 10 year old kid here that goes mid 18 in the 5k. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before he gets into the right race and gets a win. Fun to see.
Tiny? She looks normal sized. Why use "tiny"
Heck yeah.. you go, girl!
The Canadian Carrie Garritson. Hopefully dad is less crazy than Mike.
I hate her
I have watched this play out for the last year. This is not a case of her casually running sub 20. This pre pubescent girl has been training for this. Long term development should be the goal. Race organizers should set an age requirement of 14+ to protect the child from over zealous parents and coaches.
kind of think he is, unfortunately, I have heard.
😁😁😁
so does the guy in the picture, imagine not only losing to a 10 year old girl, but appearing in all the post race press images and everybody seeing you lose to a 10 year old girl.
If I was near her at the finish line I would be afraid to do a sprint finish. I would look awkward and dumb battling a little girl, even if I beat her. If I didn't try to beat her I would still look awkward being behind her. I think the best thing would be to just DNF a few hundred metres from the finish to avoid being in the same photo as her. At the moment I'm lucky to run more than once a week so I'm afraid her finish time would be a really great race effort for me in my current shape. I wouldn't want to be in that race unless I was back to normal fitness
This rarely turns out well.
similar to this 12 year old Norwegian
Or instead of dnfing you could just put on a really heavy limp as an excuse for your pitiful time.
Quite the family. It wasn't just Carrie who was a good young runner.
Alan
We actually had a discussion in our running group chat about whether you would run down a 10 year old in a sprint finish. People tried to say they wouldn’t, except one of the people who claimed that starts repeats 2 seconds early to get ahead and front run so they would totally out kick a child.
I think that many times it does turn out well. Many of these girls run well enough in high school to get scholarships for college -but I will agree that few become top collegiate runners and fewer still become pros.
not sure what the conversion is, but more impressed with the 3:18 1km time.
Nah, i wouldn't ban kids from running races. For every kid with parents pushing kids to train for racing, there are dozens out there just jogging with their parents and friends having a good time and seeing that running could be something they do their whole life.
He started well behind her and ended up with a faster net time (19:21). I don't know if that matters in this race. I feel worse for the women's 2nd overall, just a few seconds back in 19:32.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
I think Letesenbet Gidey might be trying to break 14 this Saturday
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
