Stanford men didn't run some guys. Ky Robinson most notably. They still need a better 5th, but good showing by the Cardinal. Put him in there with Hicks and Sprout where he normally is and that score is close.
Looks like a bunch of us posted about Ky Robinson at the same time. Yeah, Stanford is in the mix at Nats based off this. Also flew in yesterday and raced at 6:15am pacific time, which can't help.
Technically speaking… Hutchins did much better in this race than in her first race.
1st race: slower race pace and blew up shortly BEFORE the second mile.
2nd race: much harder pace on a harder course and was top 25 until the last 1k.Then she blew up.
Her fitness has improved in only 2 weeks. She has 3 more weeks in until Nuttycombe.
Yes, I'd be looking at this positively if I was her. The OSU course is very hard too. A killer. So, only 1000m more of fitness to go. She won't win, but could do well for her team in the coming months.
On another note - huge win for Cook. OSU women look like real contenders except their 5th runner is too far behind..need to close that gap... The new Kenyan OSU picked up is very useful in 3-4 position and could get better as the season progresses. What happened to the Arkansas and Colorado women's teams...
BYU men look good; OSU men over-rated (or did they sit top runners out today?). Looks like another NAU Vs BYU battle at Nationals..

Stanford with Robinson would have been well ahead of BYU today, probably scoring around 60

True. So, an NAU Vs Stanford battle at Nationals? With BYU and OSU rounding out 3rd - 4th.
Interesting to note that both Alex Maier and Natalie Cook went the same high school… They must know how to produce runners who will stay good into college
Meika Beaudoin-Rousseau is another good Stanford guy who didn't race today. Dude ran 28:35 on the track in May. He isn't Ky Robinson, but he's a potential #5 guy for them.

You run with what you got. They showed up with their runners and this is what happened. Maybe Robinson will make a difference maybe not. Let's see what BYU brings when it matters.
Just like US soccer. They got humiliated by Japan 2-0 the other day. They looked like crap and were lucky it was only 2-0 when it easily could have been 4-0. Missing some key US players but they might not have changed the score much. Japan also missing players.

Don't be a moron. (Or moran, for that matter). We're handicapping for Nats. No one gives a sh-- about today's results other than what it tells us for the real races to come.
Natalie Cook winning today is super impressive. Yes she was a high school phenom, but honestly her transition to college was a delicate proposition at best. She (presumably) increased her training mileage, stayed injury free and healthy then turned TF out on a quality field as a freshman who's only weeks into her college career. Huge props to her and her coaches. Fingers triple crossed the rest of her season goes as well.
