Laila Traby will be fixed on her fate on October 3, On that day, the Marseille criminal court will communicate its decision in the case of the athlete, tested positive in 2014, a few months after her title of champion of France in the 5,000 Mr. She faces a one-year suspended prison sentence and a fine of 5,000 euros. "I no longer want to hear about athletics since this case which shocked me", confided before the criminal court the former Long distance star who had been suspended three years in 2015 after this control.
Following information, the French Anti-Doping Agency (AFLD) presented itself on November 7, 2014 at the Font-Romeu altitude station (Pyrénées-Orientales) where she was training. At first, she had refused the control and then had made several phone calls, in particular to Salim Ghezielle, presented as an "athlete contributor" to various French clubs. He instructed the sportswoman to erase everything on her phone. In the fridge of her accommodation, the gendarmes discovered syringes of EPO slipped into a box of vitamins, as well as an empty bottle of growth hormone on which his DNA was discovered. "I was scared, I was in shock, I did not understand what was happening", defended Laila Traby to justify her refusal of control and her panic established by the panicked SMS exchanged with Salim Ghezielle.
Traby, 43, has opened a beauty salon
In the sportswoman's phone, the gendarmes (French military police ) found what the prosecution called "a doping protocol": a plan over 31 days bearing the names of authorized vitamins but also simple dosages suggesting that they were doping products. illegal. The document had been shared between the sportswoman and Salim Ghezielle to whom she also sent her blood tests carried out under an assumed name.
After contesting the possession of the products, Laila Traby, then affiliated to the athletics club in Martigues, (not far from ghost’s French domicile ) had admitted having injected them thinking that they were vitamins recommended by Salim Ghezielle. “I trusted him 100%”, said the one who is now 43 years old and has opened a beauty salon.
Judged in particular for having incited him to doping, the prosecutor Jean-Yves Lourgouilloux claimed against Salim Ghezielle two years' imprisonment, including one year and a fine of 10,000 euros.
A third defendant, now a caretaker of buildings in Clermont-Ferrand after an abortive career as a marathon runner, is suspected of having supplied EPO and growth hormone purchased freely in Morocco. Two years of imprisonment, including one year firm, and a fine of 10,000 euros were also required against him.
Ghost1 notes: Traby, The former French 5000 m female champion from several years ago claims she is totally innocent in this case and puts the onus and the blame on her advisor. Salam Ghezielle. Many people will question whether she’s being sincere in this case. Final verdict in this case is set for October 3, 2022 which is just around the corner.
When they arrested her, she claimed to only speak Arabic. Like that is going to convince anybody that you are not an EPO cheat. Always best to play the Katir 100% Spanish/French/Belgian card.
She will need a good lawyer to get off the hook. One has to feel a bit sorry for her because it seems she was pressured into possibly taking these illicit products and she went along with it. This does not absolve her of blame but it can explain why she acted the way she did. Most of these French distance runners of north African Arab origin come from very humble backgrounds and the temptations to reach the top are many.
Perhaps the judge in this case, in the final verdict rendering on October 3, 2022 will keep these things in mind and decide on more clemency. Watch this space for more info in the coming days. Thank you.
I could not find her profile on world athletics under the name “Traby” - but I found this under a different family name which I assume might be her but if I’m wrong on that, please don’t hesitate to mention it and I stand corrected. Thank you.
The International Association of Athletics Federations took Morocco off their doping watch list two years ago. But fresh doping revelations by ARD show a distinct lack of real change.
Laila Traby (born 26 March 1979) is a French runner. She won a bronze medal at the 2014 European Championships in Zürich in the 10,000 metres event. Three months after the championship, she was found by police with EPO in her...
Putting people in actual prison for breaking a sports rule is stupid Frenchiness.
Instead they should put the doper in the doper's box. That will be like a hockey penalty box somewhere on the infield. They have to attend a certain number of high profile meets (at their sponsor's expense) and sit in the box for the fans and TV cameras to see. Incentive will be a reduced suspension time, like 4 years to 1 year.
a good post by our old marseillaise expatriate friend!
its long been known that doping may face criminal sanction in several countries, but i have just though of a problem;
if anything done by wada etc authorities is expected to be used in a court of law, then the evidnecial trail, the taking of samples etc will all need to meet criminal standards and i would be very surprised if they do. so now, if you are about to be tested in a country wehere doping is illegal; can you legally refuse if basic criminal standards are not met? is noone reads you your rights?
One of the more ‘shocking’ (at the time) revelations on the Russian doping scandal uncovered by the German journalist was how easily PEDs were accessible; for example, with a simple phone call, one could have EPO delivered, like a pizza, with no medical prescription required.
Now, is that possible in the US? Correct me if I’m wrong, but in the US, it would be an illegal black-market transaction, whereas, it was not in the foreign country(s), according to the journalist’s documentary.
La plainte d'Ophélie Claude-Boxberger pour « viol aggravé » lorsqu'elle était mineure, contre son ex-entraîneur et ex-beau-père Alain Flaccus, a été classée sans suite.
In other news from France, the famous French female steeple chase runner, Ophélie Boxberger, had her complaint against her coach rejected in a court of law. She is the daughter of former French distance running superstar Jacky Boxberger, who had a formidable range in running from middle distances right up to the marathon which he ran in two hours 10 minutes.

Ophélie Claude-Boxberger (33), suspended for doping with EPO, had filed a complaint in October 2020 for "aggravated rape" against Alain Flaccus for acts committed between 2002 and 2007. Her complaint was closed without action on August 24 by the prosecution, told AFP the prosecutor of Montbéliard, Ariane Combarel, confirming information from the newspaper L'Est Républicain.
The prosecutor noted in the version of the specialist in the 3,000 m steeplechase “uncertainties and contradictions which do not make it possible to retain facts, dates and precise places allowing the offense to be characterized”. "There are elements in his complaint, but doubt persists on both sides and the evidence is insufficient" for criminal prosecution, she said.
Alain Flaccus, the athlete's former trainer, also his mother's ex-companion, and who is at the heart of Ophélie Claude-Boxberger's EPO doping case, has always denied any sexual abuse against him. . “This classification without follow-up seems to me totally adapted to the procedure. The rantings of Madame Claude have been swept away by the investigation and it is important that Mr. Flaccus regains his honor,” his lawyer, Me Jean-Baptiste Euvrard, told AFP.
Ophélie Claude-Boxberger had also accused her former handyman of having injected her with EPO without her knowledge, during a preparatory course for the 2019 World Championships in Doha, in Font-Romeu. She had tested positive for this substance in September 2019 but the Montbéliard court had already released Alain Flaccus in September 2021 for these facts. He had changed version several times before finally saying he was totally innocent.
Ghost1 notes: personally I think that she falsely accused her trainer of doing those things to get off the hook. This is a very unfortunate case and it is very sad indeed that she had to go to those lengths to try to take the negative spotlight off herself.
Brilliant idea! Then they can place a banned poster here in the Troll’s Box and they will have to be on a web cam the entire suspension but you can get it reduced from like 3 days to 1 day of good behavior on the web cam.
for those who don’t understand French I will provide the main points.
I hate those that sell their skin for money. I would never change my passport for whatever reason it is.
On 7 November, the police raided the apartment occupied by Traby where she lived in during an internship in Font-Romeu, a place of high altitude training for French distance runners. Several EPO ampoules and syringes were left in a refrigerator. According to Le Monde, the athlete would not say she was Traby, before starting to speak in Arabic only, and refusing sign any papers. This led the police to the place her in custody.[6] A blood test confirmed the presence of EPO in her body.[7] She said she was a "victim of a conspiracy," since EPO can not be administered by injection intravenously.[8] On May 18, 2015, she was suspended three years by the French Agency for doping.[9]/

NOPe. They should be put into prison for theft and fraud, they should be stripped of all records and medals, they should be forced to compensate their victims.
