Is there any chance a Canadian runner could race at NXN or is it strictly Americans?
If not what are the best xc races in North America that a Canadian runner could run?
The only way that could happen, would be if a Canadian were going to a US high school - either crossing the border every day, or going to a boarding school. NXN is based on where you go to school, not your residency or nationality.
OFSSAA is usually the best cross-country race for a Canadian high schooler, but they have to go to an Ontario school. Failing that, national juniors. And then maybe that regional Americas race, but it seems like a lot of the top runners skip that.
We have Youth (U18) and Junior (U20) nationals, as well as separate provincial championships for high schoolers. Not sure why Canadians would want to go to NXN, an American championship.
Welcome to the 57th McQuaid Invitational at Genesee Valley Park, Rochester, NY - Oct. 1, 2022 What a great day of races at GVP! Congrats to all participant...
If you are from Ontario you have OFSAA which is awesome, but youth and junior nats are club races instead of with the high school team and are very similar to OFSAA except with some BC runners.
Also NXN and Footlocker are very cool races with gear and provide a great hs running experience.
Canada has a national championship. It’s just not through schools but instead the clubs. There also is only one national meet, which is probably better because it is more official.

Canadian cross country championships have both an under 18 category and an under 20 (or Junior) category. the junior race includes selection for world juniors. So top high schoolers may choose to run the junior race instead of the under 18,
Since Canada is technically a protectorate rather than a true state, you aren't eligible. We haven't forgotten who you sided with during the War of 1812, so it's unlikely that this will change any time soon.
I think the main reason they can't is that it would mess up the division of regions (whether of NXN or Foot Locker) if Canadian runners could enter the northern/bordering regionals and theoretically qualify and prevent runners from those actual states from doing so. But I've noticed there've been some Canadian teams and individuals at the Nike T&F nationals (maybe the NB ones too, but haven't noticed) since those don't have regions.

So you're telling me that OFSSAA is a better race than U20 or U18 Nats? For that to be true, the Nat Champs races would have to be missing significant Ont runners who just competed at OFSSAA and runners from the other 9 provinces and 3 territories would never place in the top placing at Nats.
When's the last time all 6 runners on Canada's U20 team were from Ontario? Perhaps never?

Typical Ontario myopia ...
I do think it has happened. certainly Ontario most years has supplied the majority of the U20 team. Not all Ontario high schoolers will run nationals especially if held out of province. OFSSAA cross country and track meets are really high level in terms of quality and quantity and quantity of quality. I speak as a jealous BC resident.

Two years is a long time. My guess is I was talking about depth. Sure, in any given year U20 nationals is going to have the top performers, including out of province runners who believe they have a shot at the World XC junior team. There have been some excellent nationals in BC, Québec, and Nova Scotia over the years, but there’s a reason it’s most frequently in Ontario. It’s not just myopia (sure, that’s an Ontario problem and bias)—it’s also depth. They simply have the numbers.
And I don’t know about the junior national team being all-Ontario except for ancient history. Late 1970s early 1980s in the Rob Earl, Dennis Stark, Dave Reid, Marc Olesen era it was a regular occurrence.
