- mol and sorum, that won that gold in the BEACH volley olympics despite norway not having beaches or even sand and no one there even know what "volley" is (they import sand from portugal and play in closed gyms)
- magnus carlsen (chess guy)
- blummenfeldt (triathlon guy)
- Warholm (beat two west african-descent guys in a sprint, demolished the WR that stood for 40 years)
- Ingebrigtsen (destroyed the best Kenya has to offer)
- Haaland (dominating soccer out of nowhere)
- Casper Ruud
norway won 0 golds at rio olympics. they won 4 at tokyo olympics.
I'd say certain experiments that happened in Norway almost 100 years ago are starting to show their fruits...
It's strange that it's only male athletes, no women achieving big results in summer sports.
And you guys thought Jamaica and Kenya were bad...
Crazy for a smaller country. Add in the winter sport dominance. And Killian Jornet lives and trains there (in a league of his own at ultras).
I’d agree it seems too good to be true, but I also know in the endurance realm a lot of their recent success has come from a collaborative effort of training more like their skiers. The non-endurance sports though, who knows? There is a lot of scientific thinking put into their training, so maybe they have just come up with the perfect training formula and once the rest of the world figures it out they will be average again. But we also know what else is science based…
I hope it’s honest dominance because their athletes are enjoyable to watch and listen to.

they definitely are enjoyable, same for ben johnson, lance, carl lewis, bolt, messi...
It's going to be funny 20 years from now when these norwegians are exposed, we're all gonna be like "wtf how did I believe they were clean?" and there's gonna have a laugh
Who would have thought that a country that owns a couple of percent of ALL the world's stock listed companies has resources to invest in sports. Ruud and Haaland are also good in SKILL sports, where doping is mostly irrelevant.

You are all insane. Ingebritsen, Warholm, and Blummenfeldt are all olympic/world champions and thus have been drug tested countless times. Warholm had to get drug tested immediately after his world record and he passed.
This is far less suspicious than Jamaica being dominant in the sprints with a population almost half the size of Norway and is a much poorer country.
The VIKINGS basically took over the world for 3 centuries. There are countless tales of them being huge and incredibly strong as they raided and pillaged everyone. The vikings even reached North America 500 years before Columbus.
For more than 1000 years the Scandinavians have been physically larger humans than other nationalities. It's not surprising at all that they have good athletes.

Good dopers don’t get caught AT events. But as I said, I’m choosing to believe that their training culture, money, and scientific approach are why they’re taking the sports world by storm, until proven otherwise.

I see what you're saying, but being large, strong, and brutish do not generally translate well to being a good endurance athlete. Many distance runners and even triathletes center around somewhat smaller builds and slighter frames. Less weight and more efficiet cooling that way.
Please stop this. The results of a large-scale project to research the origin of the Vikings through DNA analysis, led by the evolutionary geneticist Eske Willerslev (Copenhagen), were published in the magazine "Nature". The DNA analysis showed that the Vikings were not a homogeneous group, but a motley bunch. Their ancestors were hunter-gatherers, early farmers and people from the Eurasian steppes. The analyses proved three major hotspots where people mixed with people from other regions during that era: One in what is now Denmark and one each on the islands of Gotland and Öland in what is now Sweden. There were trade hubs there. The Viking theory is used here at Letsrun by people who argue with clichés and invent a Viking man that only exists in currently popular streaming series on TV or fantasy books.

First, "viking" was not a racial, ethnic or national designation, but a term occassionally applied to seaborn raiders of any origin. Heimskringla applied it to Iberian muslims who attacked Norwegians in c. 1100, as well as the raiders from Orkney and Shetland who pestered Western Norway and caused early kings to take defensive actions in the 9th c. It was occassionally, but very rarely used in contemporary sources describing Scandinavian raids in the 9th - 11th c.
Second, Norway is historically the weakest of the Scandinavian realms. It was subjected to Danish overlordship multiple times in the 10th and 11th c. At its height in the late 13th c., kings of Norway held lordship over sparsely populated, pastoral communities in Shetland, Orkney, the Faroes, Iceland and southern Greenland. The combined population of these counties, which were unsettled before Norwegian peasant refugees settled (settled, not conquered) them, was a fraction of a large English or continental town. When Norway's king tried to assert his claims to power over the Hebrides in 1263, the largest fleet in Norwegian history was driven away by a ragtag Scottish force. Norway was by far the weakest part in the Scandinavian union's from the 14 c. onward, and was deprived independence and made a subservient (lydrike) of Denmark in 1536. It remained that way until western powers penalized Denmark after the Napolianic wars and transferred Norway to the Swedish royal house in 1814, where it stayed until it was granted (but did not fight for) complete and total independence in 1905. Norway was, in other words, the weakest member of a marginal backwater in Europe. Denmark (one of several countries with a taller population) was the dominant force in that region - in the Viking Age, but also throughout the medieval and early modern eras.
So, where are all the world-beating Danish athletes?
If you're going to try your hand at biological determinism, try to learn what that is and why it's not the same as cultural or political history.
Ps. The Icelandic-Greenlandic explorers who reached North America were of Norwegian ancestry/stock, but were peasants, not 'Vikings'. Moreover, they were almost immediately scared off and driven away by natives, known as skrælinger, who were physically much smaller.

If you think Haaland came out of nowhere you are uninformed. He was a star right out of the gate once he joined Salzburg. He is also the child of 2 professional athletes so not exactly a surprise.
Norway is showing what happens when you really invest in sport and culturally commit. Unlike Jamaica and Kenya who have had a rash of positive tests I don't know of any recent, high profile busts in Norway. That is why they get the benefit of the doubt
Not watching US open. No Djokovic, no point in watching.
You are missing a lot. Alcaraz is probably the most exciting talent in men's tennis since the Big Three.
That's what they said about Zverev, Tsitsipas, Sinner, Khachanov...
Anyway, when the reason for preventing a professional top athlete from playing is a disturbing, criminal, backwards, and farcical one then the desire to watch is completely overcome by pure disgust.
Eh, Ruud just looks like an ordinary good athlete. Carlos Alcaraz is the one who is the love child of Derrick Rose and Barry Sanders. Not that I think that drugs did it, but if you want to point fingers at extraordinary, he is your man.
