He apparently says it's a shame the season is already over and must be extremely bitter that Wightman has beaten him and avoided him afterwards.
Imagine how awesome it would be if Jakob was on the start line to set things straight
You guys don’t get it. Most world class track athletes racing schedule is determined months before the race. He is not avoiding Jakob and Jakob is not changing his schedule to beat Wightman. They will meet next summer, as it should be…
I didn't mean to say that Wightman has been deliberately avoiding him, but I couldn't come up with a word for 'unintentionally evading'. (?)
Also I don't think anyone actually believes that Jakob is going to NY this weekend although it would be very interesting
Jakob should take a serious crack at a major WR while he still can. Enough of this boring 3:28 and 3:29 stuff.
And what world record might that be? 3:26.00? 3:43.1? 7:20? 12:35? Sorry there's no reason to think right now he has a truly legit shot at any of those.
Maybe the 7:58 2 mi since it is not run as often and is weaker than the 3K. Still a very tough one.

Jakob has proven beatable. The male middle distance class is fun to watch. There is a lot of good competition. It sure seems like there is a lot of man crushes with Jakob on this message board. Wightman just ran in the 1:43s for an 800. That's faster than I have seen for a while. I would not bet against him.

if he shows up there wightman will bail.
He's never facing Jakob again, I called it here when he beat Jakob.
You could tell how angry Jakob was right after the race. I think Wightman will race him again at the next World Championships. It's strategic in a sport where athletes don't make a ton of money. Capitalize on the World Title. Don't have it appear tainted with a late season loss so you keep driving up appearance fees & sponsor interest. To his credit, he's been running some great 800s. He's absolutely ducking Jakob who we all can probably agree is a half step above even though he lost the most important race of the year. But I don't fault him for protecting his title & getting paid.
The best way for Jacob to get revenge is to simply beat him at the World Championships next year. Beating Weightman in an end of season road mile means nothing. Doesn't even count as an official race. Even beating Weightman on the circuit after the WC this year doesn't make up for losing the biggest race of the year. I don't blame Weightman for avoiding Jacob either. Nothing to gain and a lot to lose.
Of course it counts as an official race. But yes, that wouldn't really be redemption.
I have no idea what kind of money did Nike pour into such a local event to get all-star pacers for hobbyjoggers like me. I didn't run as I'm too old to try and get good at track, but I hope next year they get Kipchoge and Bekele to pace me at Berlin Marathon if I manage to stay a member of the club (getting to pm workouts is such a chore when it's dark and cold and rainy or snowing, half the members get expelled during winters).

I said a major world record. 2-mile is not even a world record at all, besides being soft.
It doesn't matter if he can do it or not, he needs to TRY. He hasn't even gone for it. His lifetime PB is gonna end up being 3:28 despite often making it look easy.

I think Jakob will go for some fast times next year where there is only one international championships.

Well Jakob didn´t go to N.Y. but you would think he could have run 3:45 since other runners (including the 2 Scottish Jakes) ran faster than their track mile PBs!?
