Did you forget to post this 7 years ago? Apple Watch has the ability to take splits by push button for as long as I’ve known.

Apple missed the party on this one I believe. Too many competitors in the space with better offerings at a lower price. I’m sure some Apple disciples will do their due diligence and pay up for it, but this is about 3 years too late. My Polar Vantage M was $199 and still had 30% battery left after a full IRONMAN race. Apple needs to knock about $250 off that price tag.

False. I've owned two apple watches. The only way to take a split was to hit the side button and circle thing at the same time. Or if you were in the apple workout app, you could double tap the screen (good luck doing either with sweaty hands or with gloves on) but their workout app only showed the total time, not the split time.

For $799 the watch should wipe your butt, wash your dishes and raise your kids as well.

When you use the WorkOutDoors app you can program something almost as good as a button press.

I use spin down on the side knob to pause and spin up to split.

But it really has made me hate apple.

i view this as a first gen product as a sports watch even though it isn't really first gen. give it until it has a 2nm or 3nm chip and a few years of updates to the fitness tracker software. it'll compete with garmin's flagships by then.

I wear a timex on my other wrist. The Apple watch is mainly for emergencies on trail runs and HR on workout days.

If being contactable is important to you while on a run, just get a Flipbelt for your phone

Happens all the time. No need to imagine anything.

You just described why people would buy an Apple Watch. It’s not a sports watch, it’s a smartwatch that makes it easier to leave the house without your phone. It JUST SO HAPPENS to track workouts, but it’s really an extension of your phone, plain and simple.

It’ll never work as a running watch for professionals, because that functionality will take too much out of the battery life. There’s a reason Garmin can charge $1000 for a watch with a terrible, dim screen. Those are sports watches for serious athletes, with some smartwatch capabilities for added measure.

Rojo, I use a small, inexpensive fanny pack to carry my phone.

Just get a spibelt and a dumb phone and wear whatever watch you like.

I carry my phone in a $15 waist belt... that I bought at TJ Maxx for $7.99.
