OPTIC LENS THAT SEES THRU CLOTHES

It's not a lens it's a filter that only passes near IR light. NIR is scattered less so it can have some of the effects they list.

It works like a backwards Xray. Xrays aren't absorbed or scattered by skin/tissue, but are reflected from bones so bones show up on the recorded images. similarly, a lot of stuff (clothing, skin(thin)...) don't absorb NIR so you could "see" through them if you had an NIR light source.

You also can't see NIR light with your eye. Depending on the wavelength of illumination, you might even need a special camera sensitive to NIR or IR. Silicon works up to about 1 micron, and there are some more expensive research devices made from GaAs (I think) sensitive deeper into the IR.

there was a sony handycam that came out a few years back where they had accidentally allowed this sort of thing to happen when in "night shot" (night vision) mode.
