I heard that years ago. I believed he swallowed some fluid from a sheeps gland but was disgusted by it. He would go to Hot Springs every year to get in shape. Ruth, being Ruth, would try or do anything. He also used corked bats, but there is dispute whether or not he used them in real games.
Well we can be relieved he didn’t inject the sheep with extract from his testicles.
I've lost all respect. He should have used Lion testicles.
Newspaper reports said that the injections didn't help his batting but he started growing thick hair on his back.

Just Wooden and Bryant? Do you remember anything Charles Barkley said? They are ALL paid. And they have personal test takers. You think Derek Rose and Amar'e Stoudemire actually passed those test?

Interesting article , but I don’t know that injecting oneself with “elixir de sheep testicles” is actually performance enhancing. The only effect it seemed to have was it made the Babe extremely sick.

I would’ve imagined that a sheep’s testicles would be too large to inject them inside yourself with a syringe, a rifle perhaps might do the job.

The corked bat stuff seems to have come from a spurious claim made by Bill James. There was some use of a (legal at the time) laminate bat, but nothing that I’m aware of about corked bats. I wrote to Robert Creamer about this a couple of years prior to his passing, and he was very skeptical.
