This is a HUGE hire for UT. An enormous amount of excitement has to be spewing over in Austin. I’m sure they’re busting at the seems to get this news out. their’s going to be an oversized amount of love for Greg upon his arrival.. can’t wait to see the heavy contribution he has on the program! This will tip the scale for The UT track and field program to make that push for a national title. Look for a big press conference soon!
I actually think it is a good hire. The guy was very successful at Washington but he lost perspective. He has probably reigned his intensity it in a bit.
Also, there are other factors in his favor at UT. One, he won't be working with women, so disordered eating will be less of an issue. Also, Texas athletics fosters more of a professional attitude, compared to Washington. More of a get the job done or get out mentality by the admin, which fits him.
BREAKING: @thestridereport has confirmed via multiple sources that Texas is hiring Greg Metcalf, formerly of Washington, as the team’s next men’s distance coach.
