Any scuttle as to what sort of shape he is in? He is talking a brave game but I'm also seeing tweets he has gone soft in France. After the disastrous performance at the World Championships by American distance runners, a win by Jim is really needed

Big Jim is a lock for the win, thereby joining Grant Fisher and Cade Flatt as the true all-American heroes of 2022. Remember this post.
I'm excited to see Zach Miller back, low chance of winning, hope he does well. His pass results were ok, but even at his best, he had hard time with this event

As long as Billy Y is there to give him a beej when he inevitably blows up at 60k, he might be top 25
Pretty much a guarantee that no American male will ever win UTMB.
He might be overtrained. Wouldn't be the first time that he slow down or completely stop after Courmayeur. In case he isn't, I hope he'll pace himself right this time.
Pity that Francois is not there, but there should be proper racing anyway.
Topography so much different than American Ultras. I think that is why Jim was in France the last 60 days.
weather looks good
Jim ain't there.
Big Jim lost his virginity and no longer has the hate to run a hard hundred. Sad he wasted his career for this clownshow of a doperfest.
Watch the live stream. Jim is gaunt and hunched, struggling uphill at 8k in. The man is broken.
He should make the top 10.
Can he win? Yes.
Will he win? No, because he is just not a mentally strong runner.
I'm in chamonix and close friends with Jim. His buildup here has been great and, maybe most importantly, this is the first time he's going into the race without having run Western states 2 months prior. He's got Kilian and Pau Cappel to worry about. No other American is in the same league.
You are biased. Zach Miller doesn't need the sexy chalet or stinky cheese. Pure PA humidity training and toughness will propel him long after big Jim drops at Champex.

Sure I'm biased, but I also have a lot of inside info and would be willing to be that no American finishes within an hour of Jim.
It always amazes me what is considered a 'trail' in the alps. These are cart paths, plain and simple.
Big assumption on your part that Jim will even finish. Highly unlikely. The man is a shell of his former self.
Humid in Saint Gervais. Zach Miller is a happy man.
five leaders - Zach and Tim both there currenlty!
