If memory serves me right, old man Whitlock would do most of his runs in a graveyard. 4-hour easy runs just shuffling among the tombstones. He said that he did this because the grass was soft and even, that it was peaceful not having to worry about cars and other traffic, and that he could meditate and face his own mortality.
This makes perfect sense to me. I think that I will start running in the local graveyard in my town. Clearly not strides or 400-meter repeats, Just the easy runs that Ed Whitlock used to do, becoming more comfortable with my own certain inevitable death.
