Where is James Mwaura? Concern for the Zags?

Pat Tyson is an excellent coach and ran a very successful program at Mead HS in Spokane, WA. He should have gotten the Oregon job but they didn't give it to him. The Zags are lucky to have him. He built a nothing program at Mead and Gonzaga into something. Since Tyson's departure from Mead the program is nowhere near what it used to be.

Yeah, believe he has his own coach or trains on his own, at least part of the time. There were some hints of this information in interviews Tyson gave during/after COVID.

I heard an interview once that he decided to forgo having a family, that he considers himself "married" to his team. That's proof of his dedication right there. I don't understand why James would have a different coach though. I'm hoping that is just LRC fodder talk. top ten at NCAA's could be real.

I think we all know who Pat Tyson is and what he's accomplished. The OP didn't ask how Mead looks twenty years after Tyson departed. He asked where is James in their Instagram workout photos, and hoping he wasn't injured. This team looks like they have top 10 potential, but that looks much less likely without James racing. Hopefully he's not injured.

I can't believe that would be true that James doesn't run with the team and isn't coached by Tyson. Why would their best runner not practice with the team and why would Tyson let that fly? There's no way Tyson would be cool with that. I don't know all the details, but if that were true, that sounds like a bad culture to me.

Don't believe the rumors. Mwaura is just injured and has been sticking with cross training. He'll be around by mid to end of season.

They are still a top 10 team without him. A lot of young guys have stepped it up this summer.

James has always been coached by his high school coach

Would James be faster if he let Tyson coach him? Who is in charge of this dynamic: Tyson, James or his real coach? Who is this mystery coach even?? Brojos need to do a deep dive for journalists sake.

This is a silly question. Of course he would be faster if he was working with Tyson, didn’t you see what Tyson did at Mead HS (back when 4:20 was fast) and what he has done at Gonzaga… I can’t wait to see what happens at UCLA, will Brosman be the next Tyson, the jump from elite HS to college can be tough and clearly Tyson is one of the best.

This thread is so disrespectful to Mwaura and Tyson. Mwaura is coached by Tyson. He is just currently injured.

I know several people close to the program who have confirmed this.

Tyson 100 percent does not coach him. I was on the team and dude does his own thing, you won’t find a practice picture of him on our IG. Other than races - he isn’t featured because he wasn’t with us and is coached by his HS coach.

Caveat - sometimes he would be at practice but he would do his own thing. His drills are different, his warm up is different….

the real question is - who cares? I for one do. Because it sucked thinking “yea he is better than me, but why do I have to do this workout today and he doesn’t!?” Now before you get mad at me for dissing Tyson- I am not trying to- I’m merely pointing out that if I we’re to do my “own thing” I would been told I don’t have enough guts or grit like Pre and maybe lost scholarship and been cut.

regardless - it seems to work - James runs fast- Zags do well- Tyson is still a legend. So it is what it is I guess. I for one was never portrayed in a feature film(s)
