I'm approx the age of your parents- and they're being terrible. That's great they're offering $$ support. But keeping fit is a good thing. And at your parents approx age, I run 6 days/week, incl speedwork. 3X a week at your age esp is underachieving. But to your question, I'd say it vitalizes & gives you more energy for everything, & that you also sleep more soundly- and that you feel more healthy.

If you are getting good grades in a meaningful major, tell them your system currently works well for you. You wouldn't be the first person to combine academics with physical activity to optimize overall effectiveness.

I am it's just they don't care since I'm not a 4.0 gpa, my GPA is a 3.0 and I'm a Computer Science major which is really hard since I have to take a lot of engineering courses and they still don't care. My parents are constantly comparing me to my older sister who's in medical school and keep shaming me for not being as smart as her.

I bet if you asked other people at your college campus, you would find out that they too do things on a regular basis that their parents would not approve of. These people have learned this little trick to avoid angering their parents.... they don't tell their parents about the things they would disapprove of that they do.

Your parents are right. You are unlikely to get anywhere professionally significant with your running, but putting more time in CS at this point in your life to up your GPA is likely to give you much more benefit in life.

What if I love running and don't wanna quit? I don't give a damn about GPA. 3.0 is actually not that bad.

Keep running. I say this as a parent. Don’t argue with them. Just stop discussing it. Someday they will understand how important your goals are to you, and they’ll be proud. But you do what you want, as long as it’s not hurting anyone, and it’s positive for you.

Also, 7 miles is a bit less than an hour of running, let them know how it clears your head releases endorphins and the other mental and emotional benefits it brings.

3.0 in CS is very good, maybe not for letsrun geniuses but it's very good.

Again, as most others stated, don't give up running, you'll regret it for the rest of your life.

It’s not that bad at all. Keep running. It’s good for your health. +80% of Americans are obese and are going to die of some sort of heart disease. Don’t be like most Americans.

As you say below, a 3.0 is good (maybe not elite grad school good) and clearly you have a handle on the material. This handle and your drive will determine your career, not an extra .5 on your GPA. I am a parent and both kids are out of school. It is fair to say you have a controlling or controlling parents: comparing siblings, living their wishes through you, etc. . I went through this with one of the doctors in my med building whose son was in a frat, had a girlfriend and a solid 2.5 in Georgia Tech engineering. The 2.5 drove her nuts. He is doing just fine with Andersen Consulting. The social skills he picked up in the frat and with the girlfriend make him good with clients. I always felt it was much ado about nothing.

OP do you happen to be Asian? You should just get a job, take out student loans and be financially independent. 5k seems like a lot when you're 20 years old but that is really nothing for student debt. You'll probably make at least 70k/year as a new grad out of school and work your way up to well over 100k in a few years.

Yeah, keep running, but don't discuss it. Your times in hs match mine and I graduated college with a 3.0 like you have. My parents didn't care about my running, but they're gone and I'm still running and love it. Think long term.
