NACACs are the Area Senior Outdoor Championship, right? If so, for world rankings purposes, there are a lot of bonus points available for wins or high placings (in distance events, more bonus points are available than at any meet outside of Olys/WCs, the DL Final, WXC, or DL meets), so with our Area as thin as it is, it makes a lot of sense for US athletes (especially ones not quite in the top tier) to put a lot of emphasis on this meet.
Also, it’s in the Bahamas in late August, right? For distance runners, it’s a great chance to peak, take a little bit of a beach vacation worth some light maintenance training, then finish their season at the 5th Ave Mile.
Oh, and I almost forgot, winners are considered to have achieved the qualifying standard for Outdoor Worlds in ‘23, so no need to worry about times/marks or world rankings next year if you win.
Thanks for the info, I didn't know any of that. I looked it up and it stands for North America, Central America, and the Carribean. I only started following running right before the pandemic started. Is this an event that normally gets more coverage? This is the first I've heard of it.
Ha! Neither, obviously. But I assume you’re right that, with BTC’s preference to focus on training and race only sparingly, that would be perceived as a big benefit by Jerry.

No, NACACs doesn’t usually get much coverage. But some of its counterparts (European Championships, African Championships, and to a lesser degree the Asian Championships) are high profile events and a major priority for their Area’a athletes, and World Athletics is trying to make all of its Area Championships more like that.

Yeah I've heard even less about this than I have about that nandrolone thing!
Cheap. Stay in Europe or get there. This is the height of the season and while there's a short break for Euros, it's time to be knocking down the pr's and learning how to race with the big boys and girls.

If that is true, then it is just for World Athletics to give this meet some legitimacy that it would garner on its own.
Remember how high profile the NACAC cross country meet is.

What? You know Ajee and Evan have both won international medals (as in plural) right?
And that the other BTC athletes listed all qualified for and raced at Worlds? Is that not racing with "the big boys and girls"?
Winners get an "A" qualifier to Worlds next year, so they'll knock the standard out right away.
That's one less thing to worry about, plus since it's a championship race, they'll have to the chance to achieve it via "tactical" racing and avoiding having to run fast.
If they get it, then they won't have to race again (the Bowerman Dream) until US champs next year.
Now, they can stay at their remote altitude camp for even longer extended periods and have an easier time avoid drug testing.

It's win win win!!
Im not sure how many times this has to be repeated before some of you idiots get the memo, but athletes are tested far more often out of competition than they are during. Altitude camp does not shield you from the drug testers, as we saw with Shelby.

That’s exactly the issue.
Fisher runs almost never against the big boys all year, then gets trashed at WC.
Now BTC is finding ways to qualify for WC with even LESS legitimate racing??

If your reading comprehension was above a 3rd grade level, you'd understand that by going to less accessible areas at altitude to train, it makes it harder for doping authorities to send drug testers to collect out-of-competition samples.

Smart/dumb.
Besides Jager, who would be cool to see run in Lausanne, not sure what the issue here could be. I guess Woody in Brussels and maybe Thompson in Lausanne are semi-interesting though they'd be hanging on for dear life in their respective races. Woody ran 7:38 in Monaco, and a 5,000 where he ran 13:05 would probably play out similarly. He'd go out in DFL and pick off some people who died off. Doesn't seem he's fit enough in a DL style race. Thompson it would be nice to see PB, but watching him vs. Holt is interesting as well. McGorty I doubt could get in that 5,000.
