yea a real shame that a race this big has a prize purse of $2000 for the winner. Hopefully it can get back to it's better days when all the top Australians ran it.
Yo you be wrong mate! Prize Money 1st - $2000, 2nd - $1000, 3rd - $500, 4th - $250, 5th - $125. The prize money will be based on the participants gun time.
I ran it in the early eighties. 31000 started, with me in actual last place. Just the ambulance behind me. Finished 19387th in 1.40.48 for the 14k. Great day
In the eyes of Australian runners, it definitely isn't the biggest race in Australia (anymore).
That honour would go to either the Gold Coast Marathon Festival or the Melbourne Marathon Festival. I say "festival", as both the marathon and the half marathon are run at the same time at both events, and they're extremely popular target races for serious runners.
City2Surf may attract 70,000 people, but most of those participants are footballers and/or mums with prams.
yes I would agree although the Melbourne half isn't a certified course which kinda sucks. It will still get coverage on a National level as it is one of the biggest fun runs in the world. Shame they don't do more to attract elite athletes though.
Sorry. My comment was aimed at 'joke of a country'. Glass houses and such... But on a running note; fine run by Liam Adams. Very quick turnover after the Comm Games marathon. He's a working man - 2 grand is 2 grand. The course is hilly (up and down) and it was very windy today.

May we assume that you are joking about your performance in this race? If not, respect.
That's pretty good. 70,000 is alot. In Souther California we get 1,000,000 runners on 4th of July and Memorial Day weekends. Normally we have 200,000 runners per day on average for the year.
