Sucks. I like the trim of her jib. Soleus is part of your achilles so makes me nervous. Hopefully she means the muscle like she said. I understand overuse injuries, but why are these non sprinters tearing everything? Crazy at that age.
I had something like this the first year after college running in my post college racing career. It starts out like general Achilles tendonitis type of discomfort. I ran through it and badly strained/'tore' my soleus. So I assume she was already dealing with some pain/inflammation and kept running through it. I had to completely stop running for something like 2 weeks and then it was a long slow build over at least a month, maybe two months until it felt normal again. The muscle slowly breaks down over the course of a run so you have to start with low mileage and slowly get back to normal. I don't think she is having surgery for this, it should be fine to heal naturally. When the injury actually happened for me, it was just one sudden step where it just 'went'. Similar to what happened with her.

Substances which yield performance enhancing results allow people's muscles to develop stronger miscles than their bodies naturally would.
If there are muscles too strong for the bone or produce movements beyond the body's natural range of motion limitations, things will tear.
Case in point, Solinsky's hamstring ripped from the bone.

She specifically said it's the opposite leg of the one she had her Achilles surgery on.
Did you do any type of strengthening exercises specifically for the soleus?
Yes I was in PT nearly every weekday. A lot of band exercises on the lower leg. Lots of rolling. But no exercises until it starts to heal up a bit, doing the exercises when it's freshly strained/torn wouldn't allow it to start healing

I assume K.S. was weight training. I tore a hamstring doing leg curls. The more distance runners train the way sprinters train at various times of the year, the more distance runners will suffer injuries sprinters suffer. More likely than not, the tear occurred doing explosive movement activities. The pain was just too much during the race. I doubt she tore soleus muscle while racing two weeks ago.
This injury being on the opposite leg of the surgery doesn't mean it's not related. She very well could have been overcompensating with that flag due to pain or healing in the other and cause us to happen.
