You're a fan of Laura Muir?
Who isn't?
I'm more of a fan of hers for becoming an elite runner while in vet school. Brains and athletic ability.
I thought Ellinore Purier was going to a Laura Muir type athlete in always putting herself in a position to win, but I was wrong.
Laura is the boss
Agree with OP
She's my favorite track athlete, man or woman, and has been for a few years.
to her
Laura is a vet?
Thank you for your service!
Huge fan of hers over here. Very happy for her success this last year in particular, even with the injury earlier in the season. Great runner and I love the way she carries herself on and off the track (from what we see in interviews and such at least)
And I will say she's the top athlete on my list where I would go home DEVASTATED if she tested positive. So please be clean, Laura! Shelbo wasn't a shock to me.
Ditto.
Agree on her being a great athlete. I know we’ll look back now and see an Olympic silver medal and a world bronze but I think she’s been in top 3/4 in her event for 7/8 years now and only going aggressively for gold rather that settling for medal means she only has those 2.
Would also say re her vet degree Glasgow university where she went is consistently top 15/20 in world so while her timing moved around very tough to qualify in this subject from there. Question for others - was she Andy Young first athlete or did he have success before her?
Her last 700 was 2:02-03 pace, i.e. Pure Hate. She can push herself to rarified levels.
I thought Tony Danza was the boss.
Tremendously courageous racer- she will go for gold even if it costs her a medal. Makes for a thrilling race every time. People forget how strong this era is- Muir has had to battle for medals against Kipyegon, Hassan, Tsegay, Dibaba. If you remove the obvious dopers from the all-time list (can we please do this World Athletics?!), Muir is likely 5th fastest ever over the distance and the other 4 are all listed above. Not forgetting that at least two of the above have had 'question marks' against their names.
She's an easy athlete to root for. She's always ran like most people think they want to run, giving it a go. I loved seeing her out-kick (an admittedly tired) Hassan in Tokyo. And the sheer guts at Eugene was astonishing. She entered with a 4:02 SB, saw Tsegay and Kipyegon going out with a 58 second first lap and still had the courage to go with it. I wonder how many other women in that race had seen her performance at Pre and just assumed she was going to detonate, but this is a woman who has run 3:55 multiple times. It would be nice if one day she could pick up that global gold one day but what can you do when you're up against the GOAT?
She's tough and puts herself out there. I love that. Vet school and world class running is awesome.
There's something about Scottish runners that I like. That whole tough Scot thing.
The thought of her doping never occurred to me. I agree she's clean. She's just the kind of tough we all want to be.
