Well, considering he was just the front man hired to be the “coach” once Saladbar was shut down he’s doing exactly what the Swoosh paid him for. Notice how immediately after the Saladbar ban every NOP athlete besides Rupp released a statement along the lines of “I am actually coached by Pete and have maybe talked to Saladbar like once or twice” and then ran nowhere close to the same level again.

Hull withdrew from the world champs 5000m due to COVID. I think that might explain her result at the comm games.

Injuries shouldn’t be used as, a Get Out of Jail Free card

Injuries are the opposite of a get out of jail free card.

I blame bad luck for 1 injury per year. Any more than that and clearly the training/diet/recovery is out of balance, and when half of your athletes are injured by the end of the season, it’s usually a problem with the program.

In HS we’d consistently lose 3-4 of our initial varsity 7 to injury by the end of each year. I was consistently majorly injured 1-2 times a year. Coach would blame us for having bad recovery habits.

My recovery habits are the exact same now, and now despite having tripled volume, I’ve been injured once over the last two years only because I had an illness that severely hurt my ability to intake nutrients and I tried to train through it.

Team-wide injuries = flaws in training/coaching.

Nike is paying big bucks for this group and defiance Pete J took over it has taken a short drop. Why any runner would want to join this group to be coached by PJ is beyond me.

If Nike plans to keep the Union TC open then they need to dump PJ as soon as possible and find someone new.

Since neither Union or BTC has added anyone new following the NCAA meet seems like both of these groups are being scaled back

Valid point re Brazier. Hull recently had COVID. Klosterhalfen is in a repeated injury cycle due to a longstanding eating disorder/RED-S

Sinclaire/Jess Hull objectively good seasons. COVID has thrown Hull off recently apparently. He’s done pretty well with Raevyn Rogers though a lot of new talent has emerged so she has to go up another level. Engels, Brazier injuries obviously bad. Koko let’s see how Euros go, but yeah 2019 Koko is probably a few seconds behind Hassan at Worlds and making the final obviously. Charlie Hunter mediocre too. So overall the mens side is really bad and the womens side is pretty good.

Sounds like Hull had a bad case of covid. It’s not Julian’s fault she got covid in the middle of the championships this year. She’s his most consistent athlete when healthy so I’m sure all sides are disappointed in the timing.

Tim Rowberry definitely should have gotten the job that Pete has now considering what he’s doing with Hassan and yomif (until he went to adidas)

I disagree. Tim was not the answer (He never coached a single athlete, let alone managing a program with multiple big time athletes running different distance’s)

The koko argument about an REDS is questionable, she was always small INCLUDING 2019 when she was running very well. Also, does anyone know what injuries she has actually had? Have they been stress fractures? And where?

Well, that's the thing, if she does have RED-S, initially she will run faster times, but it's not sustainable and eventually the body will break down/get injured.

I believe she had a sacral stress fracture shortly before the Tokyo Olympics
