Tomorrow in Budapest, Hungary Sydney McLaughlin will be trying to break her 50.68 world record in the 400h. How fast can she go?
Some people think she can break 50 seconds, but I don't think she will come anywhere close to that.
I think she has a good shot to break her world record, but probably by only a small amount, like .05 or .10 .
If she breaks 50 this meet, then she’ll run 49 flat the meet after that, then 47.7 the next
Jet lag from Los Angeles to Budapest is no joke, so that is one thing against her. Plus she won't have the adrenaline of a championship. Plus none of her top competitors will be in the race, so there's no one to push her.
I say that she doesn't break the world record.

They sound like totally reasonable times for the women's 400 hurdles. Thanks for your input.
I heard she's going after the men's record now.

No one knows why Sydney decided to run in this meet.
Sydney was supposed to be running in the Monaco Diamond League meet a few days from now. But 2 days ago she decided to switch over to this Budapest meet. Neither Sydney nor her coach have said why.

Actually this meet is in Szekesfehervar, not Budapest. Anyway.

I hope I eat my words but....bear in mind she set the WR 3x in a short period of time and by a lot. Has to be running into a law of diminished returns at some point? Jeez. Although....she is young.

She lost 0.5 sec to the wind in Eugene. 22/24 one lap athletes failed to even SB that night.

I can't even imagine what this means?
There's a lot of top sprint stars in this meet - Shericka Jackson, SAFP, Bracy, Coleman, Knighton, Dos Santos (running the open 400), and so on.
Seems highly unlikely she beats her world champs time
