I work with several Ivy grads who are mid level performers amd earners.

Another potential factor I haven't seen mentioned is the school's athletic sponsor. Nike for Stanford, Adidas for NAU. Given that Nell Rojas and that Tinman dude gave up their Adidas sponsorships to run unsponsored in Nikes, I feel like that must've been on their minds as well

I have no degree and made more than that the past few years. I have three team members that I manage that all made just under, one degree between the 3 of them. You do not need to go to one of these schools to make $300,000 you just need to work hard, and sell the right products.

Good luck to them at Stanford, but no way am I going to spend 12 minutes of my life watching a video of the announcement.

you're wrong on so many levels. economics isn't a useless degree and can lead to three very lucrative, related subfields (IB --> VC/PE), but if you don't do well with it you'll either have to go to grad school or make ~60k at a shít company doing menial work.

That's great - one of my uncles recently retired from his sales job, and he left his AA degree to start a business (admittedly, ~35 years ago you didn't need a degree like today) and has become very successful.

Still, getting a degree provides some security and better prospects. You don't need a degree to make ~200k or even ~ 1M per year, and obviously the vast majority of people with degrees don't make that much, but I'd say that you're much more likely to get there if you have a STEM degree.

From what I know:

1 - school work is non ending. You basically have to pull at least one all nighter per week. I assume that at Stanford it’s probably more than that or a constant 4 hours of sleep per night. will lead to injury/sickness/fatigue

2- reward to effort ratio is low in architecture

3- I don ‘t know if it’s the same now, but there is a lot of practical work (3D modeling…). You can’t fit that in when you are travelling most weekends.

Architecture sounds fun, but I hope that someone gives him advice on the matter.

Whatever the eventual outcome for runners, whether at Stanford or elsewhere, this is already evident - the Young boys have entrepreneurial and marketing skill. Whether this new venture bears fruit remains to be seen, but I have no doubt that this is just the start for them.

Anyway, he is a full year away from even starting college so he may change his mind several times between now and when he has to declare a major.
