He's hoping he can catch punts as his drops as a WR have been an issue.

Well if he's been out of football for years, it could take him longer than a week at training camp to get up to speed.
NFL teams want you to perform immediately. Wonder if they will have patience with him.

He's not making the team.
Not saying Allen is Ja'Mar Chase talent, but rookies drop passes sometimes. Give him a few minutes.
How often are the footballs calibrated?
catching punts isn't easy. seems to be a skill you are either naturally gifted with, or forget about it. I've seen very competent receivers who are shaky waiting to catch a ball falling from 30 yards with a 250 lb 4.6 runners coming straight at them.
I know some track fans are selfishly hoping for his downfall so he can focus more on hurdling/running. I hope he gets it together. 1 year of NFL salary might be more than he makes in his entire career for T&F.
The Sirianni family has a big background in track and field. maybe that will buy him a couple extra days of patience.
Devon Allen was signed by the Eagles as a project. The Eagles love their projects. Sometimes they pan out (Jordan Mialata), other times, they don't (Jeremy Bloom). It is likely that he will make the roster in a special teams slot so he isn't picked up off the practice squad. Other than returning punts, expectations are not high for this season.
Roster spot just to return punts is very unlikely. There's 10 players on the team that can fit that role already.

That’s probably why he was given a shot in the first place. Eagles have a history of speedy receivers that can’t catch. They don’t need to waste anymore time on this Quacker. Let him go prance over sticks.
He's also basically a rookie, and he hasn't played in many years.
Last year, Ja'Marr Chase had a lot of bad drops in the preseason, but he had the best rookie WR season ever

Maybe they'll give him a re-start.

WRs aren’t covered by linebackers and one that big and fast would be an outlier.
He's got practice squad eligibility. Lurie likes signing Olympians, he's Jeremy Bloom 2.0, they'll cut him next year. Hopefully he doesn't forget how to hurdle.
If there's one thing I know about the NFL, it is that training camp reports are meaningless.

He was never going to make it as a WR for the Eagles. We have solid depth already: AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Quez Wadkins, Zach Pascal and yes, even Jalen Reagor (the first round bust).
Devon Allen's only shot to make the roster is on special teams as I have been saying for the last couple months. Our kick return and punt return guys have sucked over the last 3-4 years.
