Only about 900 mountain gorillas left, that sucks. Didn't see anything about how srong these creatures are however, might have missed it. 4000 pounds does seem a bit much to me.
Not sure how much of a strength indicator bench is. And it's not a natural motion for a gorilla. Would like to see one try to deadlift or lift a weight over the head. Surely could beat the Olympic champ.

There's a reason bench press is one of the 3 lifts in powerlifting.
On video I once saw one of these 600lbers do a one-arm pullup.
No, it wasn't strict form--what do they know, or care, about that?--but still: pulling 600lb up with one arm. Stunning.
The silverback at my gym would regularly bench 500+, but he got kicked out after he threw his feces at a guy who wouldn't let him cut in for reps on the leg press machine.
I imagine grip strength would be ridiculous. Enough to tear a telephone book in half? Certainly enough to quarter and shred a human.

There was a man versus beast show on a while ago. In it, a 180 pound female orangutan had a tug of war match against a 363 pound sumo wrestler. At first, the sumo wrestler struggled with all his might to pull the orangutan, and the orangutan just casually resisted, sometimes only using one hand to hold the rope. Then eventually, she starting pulling and won without much trouble. The strength of the two was not even comparable. Now imagine how much greater the strength of a 600 pound male gorilla would be.
With those long arms, bench wouldn't be his best lift. That being said, they might make dead lift impossible.
Can you imagine one of these things doing a cable fly -- I think they'd rip the entire tower off of its bolts.

Well with the ridiculous amount of editing in the video and it reading “monkey” I can’t really trust the content. Apes are undoubtedly strong. But that video is sh!++y evidence.
