I meant the 5,000m WR not the 1,500m. I don't think he can run sub 3:27 let alone 3:25. But 12:35 is definitely on in perfect conditons and smooth training. He so much as admits it himself in the latest post-race interview saying he's better at the 5K than 1,500.
As a matter of fact, I think 7:20 is tougher than 3:26.
I think while conventional wisdom thinks the 7:20 is unbeatable I don’t believe it’s untouchable. First, the distance is perfect for Jakob. Mixture of 1500 speed and endurance. Second, we’ve seen lots of good but not great runners hit 7:25-7:27 of late with big negative splits/kicks. Jakob is a step above Wale, Girma, Katir, Kejelcha etc. He is better than Komen at 1500 and pretty close in the 5,000. He can run 7:22-7:24 at least, and I think with the lights and good pacing he breaks it.
One of those records will go down this year, to an African nobody has mentioned yet.
The suspense is killing me!!??
Did anyone notice that Jakob was the only one wearing an ice vest when they walked out for the 5000mF? Seemingly little things like this make me think he is ahead of everyone in his thinking.

Meh, ice vests are nothing new. Not sure why the others in the final weren't wearing them, but you'd have to have been living in a cave to not see ice vests worn at the last Olympics and the WC 10000. This is no longer advanced thinking.

An other thing that stands out to me is an interview I heard with someone, maybe it was Hoare(?), that said he didn't do double sessions as he always ended up forgetting to do the second session. Such a lack of dedication is simply mind blowing.

Not this year, but I think he has a better shot at it in the next 2-3 years than the 1500m record which is practically untouchable.
He would basically have to improve more in the 1500m over the next 4 years than he did over the previous 4.... Now we can argue the last 2 years have been tough for time trials with the championships. Maybe he is about to drop a 3:27 or 12:40...
12:35 is fast . Cheptegi was in that shape for like a month and looks to be a 12:50/26:40 guy the rest of the time.. Maybe JI has a month like that and runs 3:26/7:18/12:30.
