Starting from the U.S. championship it's clear that Mu is not as fit as last year. There's a very fine line between being in peak shape and losing that edge due to injury and/or illness. She may have missed training time. I think that's what's happened.
I'm hearing what you're saying, but on the other hand just plain stress and pressure can do a number on someone in some ways as bad as injury. Diet a little off, sleep not as restful, it really adds up especially at the elite level where it doesn't take much to know an athlete off their game.
She had Covid which kept her out of Prefontaine. Suspect missed training catches up a bit over three rounds, both at US Trials and here.
Between this awesome world T&F championship and one of the most memorable Tour de Frances in ages I think we can finally say that we’re back. Now we need to learn to live without unnecessary economic hardships, lockdowns, and reliance on the government dole.
First to fall would be the 400m record if she sets her mind to it.
I'm not sure I could handle her running 46.97, then walking off the track glowering like someone ran over her puppy while simultaneously thanking gawd for caring about her running.

Enjoy it while it lasts, because the World's will never be coming back to Eugene. Sebastian Coe was pretty clear about that. He wants to grow the sport leading up to the LA 2028 Games and he can only do that at BIG VENUES with built out infrastructure that makes hotel accommodations and travel easy for the casual fan.
There are 50 million runners in America. He wants to appeal to these people. Not the die-hard, educated, veteran track and field fan in Eugene.
Quite honestly, it was sad to see the Medal Ceremonies after the Final 4x4 race with the stands literally 7/8th's empty. Only friends and family were in the stands. Looked like the end of a high school meet.
