His tactics were abysmal. He led by himself for several laps at 13:00 pace. That gotta take a lot out of him, especially in this weather. Then he ran much of the race in lane 2 to 3, again, not a good tactic and wasted a lot of energy, so he just couldn't respond to a blazing fast last k in 2:23.
Those first few steps out of the blocks look painful, almost duck like but hey it works for her, obviously. I definitely think with tighter lead up to that first hurdle, 11.9x is possible.
I'm hearing what you're saying, but on the other hand just plain stress and pressure can do a number on someone in some ways as bad as injury. Diet a little off, sleep not as restful, it really adds up especially at the elite level where it doesn't take much to know an athlete off their game.
Starting from the U.S. championship it's clear that Mu is not as fit as last year. There's a very fine line between being in peak shape and losing that edge due to injury and/or illness. She may have missed training time. I think that's what's happened.

She just doesn’t look right, but she still won. I think there’s a reason why she didn’t race much because I don’t think she’s been feeling good.
That race was not athing of beauty, but she got the job done.
I disagree. It WAS a thing of beauty. What a battle. I've seen a truckload of track in my life, but I won't soon forget this race.
Loved this - her talent and will to win saved her tonight. But I think it’s time for a change. Needs to go to a more competitive training group. She has great natural speed but needs to improve considerably on the strength side to keep progressing. Needs stronger athletes to push her in training. Time to go to Union and be coached by Pete Julian.
Ingebrigsten is always going to be annoyed about that 1500.
A 1500/5000 double would have been really something.
He said to Norwegian media that he was disappointed right up untill the start of the 5000. Very satisfied with today, and thinks silver+gold this year at least is great motivation for next year. Very very happy.
Wasn't Mu recovering from COVID just a few weeks before the US Champs so didn't have the best preparation?
She's definitely not looked as effortlessly quick over the last couple of months as she did in Tokyo.
Fully expect Hodgkinson to win gold at the Europeans and Commonwealths over the next few weeks. She looked pretty disappointed in her post-race interview.
That 12.12 was legit. She’s just THAT GOOD. She goes over those hurdles effortlessly. 12.06!!! We are going to witness an 11.9x in our lifetime. Amazing!
Her start and acceleration weren't even that great in the final. I could definitely see a sub 12, even wind legal.
A tailwind is not always an advantage in the hurdles, but the readings still have to be below 2.0.
